But then again, that IS a quick and easy project....
And I’ve got material for that for sure.

I'd want a "Swivel Gun." Maybe 1" ball. THAT would be cool.

My small cannon takes a 1" ball & it is fun to mess with. Mike just showed me a place on line to get the fuse I need. We had a shop here but closed so no fuse no boom. I usually just use BBs in mine . Way cheaper to shoot than 1" balls.

Looks like fun, but maybe should rethunk having it so close to the Pyrodex when he lit the fuse. Just sayin.........even thought it ain't as volatile as BP.

This unit is not for firing projectiles and no attempt should be made to do so...

Not that I was looking, but, mine would be shaped like this.

Rather than the more “swoopy”  style, like this:

Making the swoopy shape for me would mean a lot of hand file work. The other more plain Jane shape, much easier.
As far as bore size, I’ll have to ponder. BB would be easy and cheap to shoot. .30 caliber would be more fun.
    Hmmm.

    Stupid software.

Anyway, I’ve been going to make one for several years. Today just happened to be the perfect day. Not to hot, and didnt have anything pressing.

That looks like mine, it's .50 cal but has never been fired. Should brake down get fuse and try it.

    Pryodex, no es bueno.
It blows out the fuse hole. That’s with a paper plug in the bore.

    Black powder not much better.

Fuse hole is too big, I guess. I’ll mess with it a little bit. Otherwise, it’s getting filed in the art bin without a base being made.

What size is the fuse hole?

What size is the fuse hole?
I’ll have to check. Should be just big enough for cannon fuse. It’s way to big for reclaimed fuses from bottle rockets I was using.
I can always make the bore larger, it’s currently sized for BBs.

I’m asking because I’m fixing to make one and WAS planning on making the hole just big enough for cannon fuse to slip into. Maybe further research is needed.
  • cpjcpj Senior Member Posts: 39,174 Senior Member
    Fuse hole is .108.
    Bore is .1875

If it helps, my little swoopy-doopy's fuse hole is somewhere between 5/64" (.078125) and 3/32" (.09375) - the 5/64" drill bit goes in a bit loose, the 3/32" doesn't fit.

I’d think .125 would be perfect for typical cannon fuse. I know some blowby is inevitable, but your video seemed that it was excessive. Might have to do with your bore size or powder??? Could always adapt a firing nipple and use percussion caps I reckon.
