Judge Kavanaugh selected by Trump as SCOTUS pick

Let the exploding heads and the fear mongering and mud slinging begin.

He's a good judge with a good grip on the Constitution on most things. A few things I don't like, but he isn't the one that decided those cases.

The talking head of opposition on the radio could only slander Trump with no substantive slander for Kavanaugh.

Commission the name plaque, and get on with it.

Off the cuff, he seems like a sound pick.

I did 30 seconds of research, he seems to be a darn good choice. Seems to be pro 2A, and not a Bible-thumper. Win-win in my book.

This video from this weekend show liberals complaining about Trump's pick, even before he announced it

He was a clerk for the guy he is replacing, he has 300 decisions from which to be analyzed, and he worked for GW Bush. So, I think he was chosen because he will be the easiest to confirm, among Republicans. No Democrat will commit to him until he has 50 Republican votes. Once it is cinched, all of the Democrats that are running for re-election in 'red' states will vote for him, with the 'secret' permission of Chuck Schumer.

I liked Kethledge best of all, but everyone from his pre-election list is satisfactory, to me. If Trump survives for a full 8 years, he might make it, yet.

Yep, the scare tactics and bull manure slinging is in full force.

He will be attacked by both sides (mostly Dems), but after some grumbling I think most (like Rand Paul and those two gals) after getting their concerns voiced and TV face time will come aboard. A couple may hold hold out so a couple Dem votes may be needed and those will be from the Red States where they are up for midterm reelections.

Will be interesting as he appears before the Senate. Gotta give Trump credit for nominating him even though he wrote a POTUS can be impeached for lying to the American public, I think that was back when Bubba was being investigated by Ken Starr.  Some snippet about that on TV by the talking heads this morn, I think I got that right.

The only way I see a Democrat vote getting him over would be if the Dems have to cast their votes ahead of Collins and Murcowski casting theirs, and then one of the two reneges on the commitment made in the last count before the real vote - not likely. It would be considered a massive betrayal that the Senate majority leader would punish the offender for, forever.

Seems like a good partisan soldier wrapping himself in a cloak of originalism. I'm sure he will be confirmed and play his part for team red.

His nomination will do for Planned Parenthood what Obama's election did for the NRA.

Democraps have no room to complain. If one of them was picking Justices for the SC, it would be loaded with left-wing partisan hacks. This one was a pick from the Federalist Society and other Constitutional experts, so I have no complaints. I hope PP gets at least federal defunding under this court. Hell, they make enough cash selling baby parts to others to pay for themselves and their ghoulish practices.

If he actually rules like a constitutionist sure. I mean he at least seems better than some of the other options, but he's also a partisan swamp monster so pardon me for being slightly sceptical.

If the REPs quit shootin themselves in the foot all the time and stick together in lockstep like the DEMs usually do, then they can get 50 and with JM not voting most likely because of his health, then the VP can put in the deciding vote.

However, those talking heads on TV keep bringing up the red state issue where DEMs are trying to get reelected in states where Trump won................so they figure even if a couple REPs vote no they may have a chance getting a couple DEM votes from those who value getting reelected more than the resistance movement by their party leaders and the backlash they may get from not voting the party line.

The smart money is sayin he will eventually get approved, but after a brutal drag over the coals in the process.

So for my education, can you give me examples of his "swamp monster" behavior?  I do not now him well so I will reserve judgement until I do my own research but this would help.

Author on the Starr report. Involved I'm the Vince Foster case. Lawyer for Bush in FL recount. Staff lawyer for president Bush. Now if he maintains his original stance that a President can be impeached for lying and holds that it continues to apply to our current president I'll give him kudos for being an impartial "constitutionalist", but somehow it feels like his legal opinions may "evolve" when a Republican president is in the crosshairs. Pardon me if I see partisan foot soldier rather than principled constitutionalist, but I am open to proven wrong with time. We won't know for sure until he starts handing down rulings from the bench.

They say the over 300 opinions/papers he has written there is something for everyone to like and dislike.

He was a dissenting opinion on one abortion case involving a Mexican immigrant. He is a Catholic, but not likely to push for reversing Roe v Wade, but likely to be for individual states to make those decisions if any of those cases go to SCOTUS.

So, I know little about the man except what I have read and watched on the news. I do think he is a good pick.

I do know our RKBA would be doomed if Pantsuit had gotten elected and had two SCOTUS to nominate.

There is ZERO CHANCE that EITHER side will EVER  nominate a 100% impartial, objective, non-partisan candidate for a SCOTUS Judge.
If you believe otherwise, you’re high on meth.
No sir, it’s gonna be left or right depending on who’s sitting in the White House.
The left can/will bitch with this appointment, as the right will do when the left gets a turn.

Like I said before, I think he's a pretty good pick. Apparently strong on 2A (endorsed by the NRA), and apparently not a Bible-Thumper (Roe v. Wade is "the law of the land"). Those are my two hot button topics, and he is (apparently) about as good as anyone's gonna get on them.

I've been busy this morning doing farm stuff. Anyway, the Left is doing their gloom and doom 'billions are gonna die' B.S. about this pick. The Left would ONLY be satisfied if Che Guevara or Fidel Castro were dug up and revived to sit on the SCOTUS. The hatred on the Left for the Constitution, claiming it is 'in the way of legislation' (Chucky Schumer, Corey Booker, Dianne Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, 'Mad Max' Maxine Waters, and a few others) is well documented.

Heaven forbid that the Constitution should actually be used to make decisions, and standing statutes should actually be left alone. Roe v. Wade is and has been the law for 40 years. And the SCOTUS can't take that decision up before the court unless SOMEONE WITH STANDING from a State case brings it before them. But the ignorant are easily led by the screeching talking heads and the screeching politicians claiming that the SCOTUS will just take dictatorial powers unto themselves and start ruling willy-nilly without following THE LAW. All the screeching reminds me of a troupe of chimpanzees fighting with another troupe over territory.

I'm sorta pissed off today for 'reasons' so.............................................if you HATE the Constitution and rule of law, then hie thee to the socialist craphole of your choice and renounce your U.S. citizenship when doing so. Venezuela is waiting for you! Get all the socialism, and lack of toilet paper and food, and water that you can stand.

Like Obama said, “Elections have consequences,” he told then number two Republican Rep. Eric Cantor. “And at the end of the day, I won. So I think on that one I trump you.”
Well, Trump is President now. HE won, so suck it up snowflake buttercups. YOU don't get to choose the next SCOTUS judge.
