Bro...if it was about you, then I'd tell everyone about the 400lb donut molester you did the naughty with at my cabin in Prescott after the last Northern Arizona Classic.

In my opinion, most relationships these days are superficial, because most people are superficial. Nobody reads good books any more, because there aren't many good books being written. Very few are interested in philosophy, ethics, religion, history, politics, patriotism, or really anything that used to be the underpinnings of 'society.' We invent new terms, change the definition of old words, re-write history, redefine ethics, intentionally misunderstand logical arguments or anything else that does not fit into a 'pop culture' belief system that makes us temporarily and superficially happy. It's only natural that our efforts to find 'true love' would mostly go unrewarded.

Wisdom is a commodity that has grown so scarce that most of us don't recognize it when we see it, or we simply reject it out of hand because it too often denies us opportunities that we want to take advantage of. The people who do possess some of it keep it to themselves, because they will be attacked and destroyed for going against consensus, if they ever try to do anything with it. The idea that a wise man can ever run into a wise woman and that they can 'fall in love' and form a life-long partnership is pretty far out there.

We live in a time when everything is negotiable. There are very few 'rules of thumb' to guide us through the minefields of 'relationships.' Everybody makes it up as they go, because it's easier to make excuses for failure than it is to actually succeed at something. Of course, I'm an 'old fart' who watches B&W movies and uses a flip phone, so this opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Sadly, those things quite often get passed off as a form of indoctrination these days. The traditional liberal arts that you mention above get dismissed as garbage not worth learning about. Anti-intellectualism seems to be the fashion of the day and where that gets us is a society that cannot distinguish truth from fiction or fact from opinion.

'Intellectual' is a label that I use as a derogatory description for highly educated theoreticians that proselytize for the left. I know that it has been used in a derogatory way by Nazis and Socialists against academicians who oppose them, and I'm not that comfortable using it. But, I don't consider them to be objective political scientists, and can't think of a better label that makes the point as well.

If I want to describe a theoretical physicist or a wise and learned expert on philosophy, religion, and ideology, that I respect for their objectivity, I use the word 'scholar,' which implies a respect that I do not have for the leftists.

But this isn't about politics and left/right. Sometimes an education is just an education. A scholar is someone that is a student of some subject or discipline. An intellectual is a smart, educated person. It was used negatively by the Nazis and communists because smart, educated people could see through the ideology, and were therefore a threat. Maybe that is why people see that as a negative now. I certainly do not.

Yes, an intellectual is someone who is perceived to be smart and well educated, and therefore should be able to not only see through a bogus ideology, but also to identify one when someone is calling it by another name and promoting it with lies, half-truths, or bits of anecdotal evidence that is not corroborated properly. He/she is also someone who, by virtue of that education, should be able to convince intelligent, but ignorant students without having to stifle the opposition or foment an insurrection that will stifle the opposition.

I'm not seeing that on college campuses that were once held in high esteem because of it. Instead, I see self-styled intellectuals who dominate the debate by claiming consensus within a circle of co-conspirators who got to their lofty positions using the same methods. Socially, we have gotten to the place where a debate is called for between socialism and capitalism, but where is a campus anywhere that will host such a thing and allow both sides to participate in it?

We have college students marching in the streets demanding socialism, whose education has not even required them to learn the history of it. They think it is a brand new idea that they ave somehow had a part in creating, yet they won't allow representatives of any opposition to it to speak on their campuses. Who empowers them to do this, if not the intellectuals who are supposed to be running the curriculum that is supposed to be educating them - not spoon-feeding them falsehoods. How can these 'intellectuals' even keep their jobs, when they are turning out students that know less about their country than an average high school student knew, 30 years ago?

'Genuine' intellectuals should divide out about equally, on the left/right scale, just like the general population. But when do you ever see them debate each other? You never see it, because the people who claim intellectual status don't allow opposition views to creep into their political science programs. They are either true believers in the Utopian philosophies, or phonies that believe that the end always justifies the means, so that it is just fine for them to help create the chaos in which their corrupt ideas can take root and flourish.

To say it is not about politics or left/right is ridiculous. You cannot argue anything to do with philosophy or economics, or even science, without examining history, and history is dominated by war and politics. Your intellectuals tell you it is not about politics because doing so allows comparisons to be made that don't favor their theories.

So if Tinder or other internet dating sites are business for profit, that's capitalism????

But if Im a college student that uses it because finding dates at the protest isn't working, that's socialism????

And if a clubhouse topic turns political, thats social schism???

Well, the Japanese are working on robotic 'dolls' in male and female, so pretty soon the guys and gals can just order their 'dreamboat' from Amazon.com! And they can turn them on and off so they aren't a bother when they're doing something else.

I am not judging, merely asking....Is that two 5s at the same time?  I mean, just for the notch on the "Been there done that belt" I could support your decision.
