A good encounter...

Seems I didn't quite come to a full stop at a stop sign the other nite on my way home from dance class, I'm almost home, driving down a very dark road, and suddenly its Christmas time!

Pull over, turn on the dome lite, get my ID ready. Officer comes to the window, I hand him my license and my CCW. "I do have a weapon with me tonite." "Where is it?" "Right here in the bottom of my dance bag." "Ok, just leave it in the bottom of your dance bag".

Nice guy, let's me off with a warning. Then I had an unrelated traffic law question - which he answered for me. Difference in laws between Florida and California.

Couldn't ask for better!

It was the fancy car. It caused automatic assumption of someone that was teaching the dance class and commanded a certain level of respect?

Or maybe it was just the civil greeting?

I've taught dance - but not Belly Dance. I'm pretty good at teaching Greek Folk Dance - but I don't feel I'm qualified to teach Belly Dance - not even after 17+ years. Its hard to learn, hard to do, and very hard to teach! I teach the occasional veil workshop - which is my specialty, but that's about it.

But yea, it was probably the civil greeting! Plus I *was* in a sky blue 25 yard dance skirt and bare midriff at the time!

Rolling stop huh...you were supposed to leave that tactic here in CA when you escaped. ;)
I actually virtually never do a rolling stop, but I did that time! The guy in front of me stayed stopped enough for 2 cars - I let my annoyance with the situation get the better of me!

You should have mentioned it was pole dancing.

I wish they would stop more of them people who do rolling stops....many are dangerous and a bad habit to get into.

Maybe they think they are saving brake pads or just being slick to save a few seconds.

I can achieve during 3 seconds of creeping at a stop sign what I could achieve also fully stopped.

Personally, I think my brother in blue should have pulled you from the car and given you a full session of nightstick therapy.  You rogue.  You scofflaw.  You nefarious character.

Seriously...see how not being a jerk is reciprocal?  I am glad you both allowed one another not to be.

During my last CPL class, a section was being taught by an old friend of mine who has been a LEO for many years. He was talking about encounters with police officers while armed.,..a younger female asked if she was required to talk with the officer.... He replied began with "Well, if you absolutely have to be a dick..."

Even as a retired LEO...on the rare occasions I have to speak with one of my former colleagues (My wife bought me a Challenger R/T when I retired)....I simply let them off with a warning.  LOL

I have my windows down, interior lights on as appropriate, with my DL and CCW in my hand and say "I just want to let you know, I have my permit and I am carrying.  It's in a holster on my right hip.  What would you like me to do now?"

I ever say "I have a gun" because to a Rookie, even Mister Rogers would sound like he said "I HAVE A GUN!"...so I just say I have my permit and I am carrying.

The sad thing is, I had a red one...my wife drove it to the hospital ONCE and it got hit sitting in a parking lot.  The insurance company called it a total because of the alleged frame damage.

I read years ago that red cars get pulled over more. AAA or the like put it out. Maybe they get run into more too which doesn't make any sense since they are so visible.

DOT statistics over the years has shown that red cars do attract more attention, followed closely by yellow.  I didn't replace the red one (which my wife picked out because she bought it without me knowing about it) with black for any other reason than I like the black better.

That was taken on the road to our place in Prescott.  It's about 10 miles outside of town in the Groom Creek area.  You hit a dirt road a mile from our place.  It always needs a good washing when we're there.

Go ahead and tell me truck needs washed too!

Shes old enough to drive if you can find an abandoned old dirt road.

My sons been driving my truck for a couple years now when we in an appropriate spot.

I let her drive my old CJ on our property and out the back road toward Mount Union or on the Fire Loop Trail.  My boys learned the same way.  Of course my oldest was more like me and bent some metal along the way.

I'm not a clean freak, and no, I will not tell you the truck needs washing too because mine looks the same.  Trucks are meant to get dirty.  I just can't stand to see a beautiful Challenger that's dirty.  BTW, is that a Truxedo tonneau on the back of your Ram, and what's the Dodge in the back ground?  What I don't have is a daughter, but then, I do have a grand daughter.

The white one?  I think that is a Caravan that belongs to some friends.

The tonneau cover is a Gator roll up.
