I heard that Rino Murkowski voted against cloture.  If she votes against him tomorrow, I suspect she'll have hell to pay.

This just shows how divided we really are. Very disheartening.

I already knew that Trump carried Alaska, but didn't know the margin.  According to Wikipedia, here it is.

Donald Trump won the election in Alaska with 51.28% of the vote. Hillary Clinton received 36.55% of the vote.

Also according to Wikipedia, Alaska voters have a penchant for 3rd party candidates.  Regardless, not very many of them, percentage wise, liked Hillary.

Also per Wikipedia, Murkowski last won her senate re-election in 2016, which means she won't come up for re-election until 2022.  If Trump is re-elected in 2020, it will interesting to see if he campaigns against her in 2022.  And, again per Wikipedia, "Although Murkowski has won three full terms to the Senate, she has never won a majority of the vote; she won pluralities in each of her three races, with 48.6% of the vote in 2004, 39.5% in 2010, and 44.4% in 2016. "

I guess we'll see how this plays out.

Someone was saying she is worried about native American tribes in HI and AK and how the judge will rule.............I dunno about that.

They say there will be a lot of cases he will have to recuse himself from, but also one of them gals who used to be a solicitor general has had to recuse herself from some.

Sounds like what we all knew, they are going bat guano crazy the SCOTUS will have a conservative leaning majority for the first time in decades.

I believe he will support the constitution as it was written and will be a strong proponent for the 2A.

I would hope the recall petitions will be hitting the streets of Alaska about an hour from now.

Collins just confirmed she will vote for confirmation.  I listened to her speech.  It was awesome.  There was no maybe to it.  Flake has already said he would vote yes unless something really big came up, so it looks like Kavanaugh is in.

Per Fox News, Manchin (D) of West Virginia will also vote to confirm.

Barring any more 'Surprises' like photo-shopped pics of the judge drowning kittens and puppies in vats of beer before raping girls................he should be in.

Don't laugh, I don't put anything past his opponents from what I have seen of their behavior.

I’m a little torn ... I am actually more a Barrett fan than Kavanaugh. I believe the GOP will hold the Senate and if Kavanaugh was not confirmed Barrett would be up real quick. It could have also flashbacked on the Dems in the midterms in the House. Barrett would actually be worse for the Dems in beliefs like the fact she’s Catholic and the birth control and Abortion issue (not that she’d be politically active but rule more right than Kavanaugh). The Dems would have to do another hatchet job on her which might not be as easy next time around.

Now though I truly hope Barrett or any top candidate for the next seat really starts to get their ducks in a row just in case ... not that I wish anything on Ginsburg or Breyer but ...

As to Manchin ... typical Dem trying to save his butt in the midterms. I know his fellow Congressional Dems understand it but I hope it bites him in the butt many many times using this to try to help his election

Manchin could possibly swap over to the REP party (later on)........that is floating around.

If Ginsberg leaves, one way or the other, then I'd bet that Barrett will be front of the list for her seat. I really don't think that the Dems want to be attacking a woman like they did with Kavanaugh, and she's a good solid judge with an excellent record, both in the courts and out. Having her in the SCOTUS would be a HUGE win for the Constitution.

Senator Susan Collins was brilliant. Her reasoned point-by-point shredding of Judge Kavanaugh's accusers and political opposition, and her patriotic defense of American principles of fair play and presumed innocence handed Judge Kavanaugh a seat on the Supreme Court, and handed Senator Murkowski … her ass on a platter.

If there had been a Republican on that committee with a sack and something in it besides sawdust, they'd have told Feinstein in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that that line of questioning and commentary is absolutely forbidden, and browbeat Feinstein under the table where she was sitting. Feinstein is one of the most evil, hateful, lying, thieving bags of doggie excrement in the Senate.

NPR and the BBC are interviewing so called experts critiquing Kavanaugh's impartial partisan rant as wrong for a SCJ.

Who are these clowns trying to BS? These judges are chosen for their bias and sit in their thrones making policy like tin clad gods. Been that way since the known world ended at the Ohio river.

There's a part of me that has a deep disdain for affirmative action over qualification tho' I suspect a woman would be a good political choice once Ginsburg retires. On the other hand, the left will no doubt treat a conservative woman pick as they did Sarah Palin.
THIS!  The left has shown that they will fabricate an accusation of an unwitnessed event from almost 4 decades ago and have confirmed players with a confirmed agenda enter it into proceedings at the eleventh hour expecting us to believe it as fact because they and the media outlets they control shout it loudly and often enough.  In other words, the EXACT game Stalin and Hitler played.

If Trump happens to nominate a woman for the Supreme Court or anything else, this current frenzy of "All women should believe all women just because they are women!" will be quickly washed away by whatever "Not left leaning enough / guilt by being nominated by Trump" hysteria their small-minded followers will swallow.  The gender of the nominee won't change the intensity of their hysteria, only the phrasing.

That said, do we have a 30-years younger version of Jeanine Pirro he could nominate to serve for the next 50 years?  What kind of theatrics would the left generate over THAT?   :D

A Judge Jeanine Pirro type woman nominated for the SCOTUS would be a MUST WATCH confirmation hearing. A Jeanine type wouldn't take any crap from Feinstein or Booker, and you can bet the farm on that. 'Spartacus' Booker would need that shield to fend off the fire and brimstone that would be raining down on his little punkin haidbone! :D

I listened to Senator Schumer's speech and it was all I could do to not shoot my television - his derangement is complete and total. That a mind that wasted is the minority leader is incomprehensible. The chasm between Republicans and Democrats is now so wide it can no longer be bridged. Thank goodness - any GOP legislator who ventures across that aisle in seek of reasonable cooperation is wasting his time. The conduct of the demonstrators in the Senate gallery during the vote was a near riot and should constitute a clear warning of the depths our nation will sink to if (when) these totalitarian-progressives ever take real power.

It is finally over. Judge Kavanaugh is now an Associate Justice of the SCOTUS.

Every election is now a crisis. If Republicans win, whatever their faults, at least the Constitution and the nation have a chance of survival. If the Democrats win, it's pure KAKISTOCRACY.

    So,
You don't acknowledge Chuck Schumer's elite and superior intellect??? Maybe you failed to notice his ostentatious display of looking down his nose from over the top of his glasses???
  • tennmiketennmike Posts: 27,457 Senior Member
Kavanaugh is confirmed by the Senate vote. Now there are two questions. When do the riots start? What is the next circus the Democrats will trot out for outrage and consternation by the bread and circuses crowd? Gotta keep the ignorant masses whipped up for the midterm vote!

They could always trot out the NY Times piece on how Trumps self made fortune was really a tax fraudulent inheritance. Be even juicier if they could report civil litigation by the State and city for recompense.

Obviously you did not get the memo delivered by the Washington Examiner. One of far to many MSN commie rag newspapers. Somehow "Chuckee Cheese" is now the U.S. Senate MAJORITY leader! I'm thinking it is a delusion rather than a typo. My TV is safe as his droning drivel puts me to sleep in less than 10 seconds.

"Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., urged Americans who do not believe Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh should sit on the high court to cast their vote in the 2018 midterm elections." Don't bother confirming. They corrected it to Minority."

True, and here we are. Unfortunately, our younger generations are witnessing all this, many being brainwashed by liberal "educators".  They seem to champion rebellion and anarchy by calling it "civic activism".
