Unintended Bass

So, I needed a bluegill coz I wanted to drag some cutbait across the lake in my kayak while drifting with the wind. I used my little 4 foot light tackle spinner rod with 4# test line, an itty-bitty panfish hook, and 1/4" of Berkley Gulp night crawler under a bobber. 

Tossed it into about 18" of water under a little spillway and BAM! I mean, it went under immediately. Hungry little bluegill! 



The lower jaw isn't quite grounded on the meter board and the hole on the board behind the bass' tail is the 21 inch mark. All in all, I'd say a good 20.5 inches. Some bluegill. Oh, and it fought like crazy. Love catching stuff like that on a pan-fish rig...

That bass didn't feel like chasing your stupid bluegill bait all the way across the lake so he decided to head you off at the pass.

Biggest bass I've ever caught, just shy of 20" was on 5.5' ultralight rod with 4# test. Took 3 leeches off a slip bobber rig before I got the set.

If you ever catch one of the big old 'salad plate' bluegill on that ultralight and 4# test line, you're gonna have a fight on your hands! I sure wish bluegill grew to 10#; if they did they'd put the bass in the shade and keep them there!

You would need saltwater tackle for a 10 lb bluegill
