Those of us who take potent potables seriously don't go out on amateur night.

My wife and I have a bottle of bubbly waiting for the ball to drop.
Until then I have my whiskey and soda.

Right now the wife is in front of the boob tube listening to Gershwin and Bernstein Live form Lincoln Center.

Well, Gershwin and Bernstein are both dead but the music is live.

Wife and I had a bottle of cheap Walmart champagne in true redneck fashion. She drank stright from the bottle and I had mine in a beer mug. The rest of the weekend, I'll be practicing hydraulic calculations.

We have our youngest grandson visiting for his last week of Christmas vacation. We spent the afternoon at the park since the weather was nice, then we went out for Chinese, and then came home and watched the San Antonio Spurs whup the snot outta the Utah Jazz. Grandson now in bed sleeping and I'm enjoying an eggnog and rum. Tomorrow he will be up at 07:30 and we'll hit the ground running again.

Yesterday afternoon ran into some friends at Rudyard's Brit Pub, celebrated by drinking a St. Arnold's Elissa pale ale. Looked around for Teach, he wasn't there, so I drank his beer, too. (this fall when Teach -- Jerry -- visited we went to that pub for a couple pale ales and lunch)

Big occasion for me, having two, count 'em, two beers. Enormous alcohol consumption these days for me. Felt no effect but still stopped at two.

Home by six pm, kicked back, watched a movie (John Huston's "The Dead). Made it all the way to midnight! A quiet new year in my neighborhood, heard maybe a dozen small firecrackers popping, that was the biggie. Reading a popular book on physics, "Fabric of the Cosmos" by Brian Greene, till about 2am.

So you can tell what a monster New Years I had. Wow.

Will usher in the New Year by writing a bit, finishing a book review for this mystery mag, then will spend the afternoon watching football. Yet another thrilling holiday weekend for this hard party dude!

spent a quiet night with some friends watching football and talking until about 0100. Then we came home and hit the sack. I got up this morning and put in 11.5 on the streets at a ~8:30 pace. I wanted twelve but my calves got really tight on the way back in and I didn't wanna chance it. Showered and started cooking. Got the kids involved and then played some board games with em...

I was going to make clam chowder on the stove. Seems like I will have to get a bit creative with the crock pot.

I have 15 bean soup on the stove. I put chopped onion, diced tomatoes, few shakes of chili powder, chopped celery, diced potatoes, diced Kentucky Legend ham, salt, celery salt and whatever in mine. Now on simmer, smells good!

I got a pork shoulder in the oven, baked beans, black eyed peas, greens, and macaroni and cheese going for dinner. Brunch was eggs Benedict, biscuits, sausage gravy, reindeer sausage, Canadian bacon, blackberry jam, poached eggs (that are fresh from my roofer's birds), English muffins, V8 juice and orange juice.
