I read the book Flags of our fathers. Only one I've read about Iwo Jima.

I've mentioned before that my old boss, they guy who hired me at Volk Field, was a Marine in WWII and was on Iwo. I just found out him and his wife are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary! Quite the accomplishment!! He's 93, not to many of them left!!

The 2 month hell those marines went through is something few will ever experience. What a sacrifice for our great country. Thanks to ALL who have served.

I served with the last active duty Marine who served in WWII, although he was in the Navy during that conflict.

He was a landing craft pilot, and said he always felt guilty backing away from the beach after dropping off a load of Marines, but felt even worse dropping off the next ones.
