Why does the forum always delete the abbreviation for transmission, ya know it starts with  T has an R, A,  2  Ns and ends with a Y, it always comes up with ******

Autocensor is set a wee bit strict, they have no control over it, but that word is probably restricted because it's also slang for someone who was born with the wrong sex, or trying to change sexes.  You can, however, say t ranny (note the space.)

Likewise we can't say the opposite of advancing the timing on a distributor, name the leader of Germany during WWII, said leader's party, or some other silly stuff.

That's like saying a fire cracker was dropped on Hiroshima! If its gonna censor something, how about "facebook"? Not ****, ****, ****, and Goddess knows what else?
But Nazi and Hitler do come through...

Weird.  On the other forums operating on this software, Nazi and Hitler are verboten.  So it seems someone can change the settings....

Oh well, I'm getting my money's worth out of all of these forums...

Oh yea, some of the more egregious words were taken care of early on - such as that action you take before firing a hammer type firearm. Now we can say that the gun was cocked, but it wasn't that way at forum rollout. But I don't think its something the mods can do, I think they have to kick it upstairs.

And the older forum had an autocensor that wouldn't allow cocked.  Or Dick's.  At least not at first.

Oh, it goes back before that.  .It was disallowed, then allowed under Marshal Dan, then we got new software and it was disallowed again, then the forum crashed...

I suspect some of the autocensor's tuning was the result of one or two members constantly testing the limits.

Im just glad that vehicle software can't listen in on the cab.

    Or can it?😲

Auto censors usually can't catch people who have a working knowledge of anything above a middle school vocabulary.  If I want to suggest someone is an unwashed fellator, or has an Oedipus complex, or has canine ancestry, or maybe he/she has been observed matriculating in a public place- - - -I doubt if the censor, automatic or flesh and blood, will be able to read between the lines!

Highly unlikely...based on our experience with this particular auto-cenor it's working with  PC list of "bad words"...originally words like Hitler, Nazi, Dick, etc were banned until we had the actually removed from the list..

That 't' word for transmission was used a LONG time before it was co-opted by a certain group of people. Same for some other words whose meanings got turned on their heads.

    Hitler--Schicklgruber
    Nazi--Democratic Socialist German Worker's Party
    Dick--Richard Cranium
    Idiot government worker--government prefect
And then there's 'cleaning one's gun'
And self-flagellation, a word of many meanings
'Brain cell deficient'-- for the 'r' word, or 'intelligence of a jellyfish' a spineless creature with no brain
Lots of words or word combinations to convey meaning without running afoul of the autocensor.

A military term around since WWI that I learned in the Navy while cross rating as an assistant to the Corpsmen. 'Galloping Dandruff' is a term that can be used in conjunction with a little more verbiage to convey some rather derogatory meaning. It's an obscure term, but can be used in conversation to say what you want to without starting a fight.
Example: His/her whole body is a designated landing zone for galloping dandruff.

I could show everyone how to use the words of your choice (any word as written) but it wouldn't leave me in good standing with the mods.

Instead of the "T" word, just say mentally unstable, gender confused and royally screwed up. We'll know you're talking about a Dodge transmission.

If you think edit or censor functions are tough around here, you ought to try the moderator functions with this latest upgrade. A degree in IT might help, but probably not much.

BTW...mods can't modify the auto-censor functions, That requires IT. And we don't have Level 1 access to them.

    Just saying.

So a gun forum of all places is succumbing to "Level 1 Political Correctness"? Unbelievable....

"Clowder".......I like that, Paul. I've known the word for years, but have never seen it used in actual speech or recent writing, unless you consider Mark Twain recent.  Clowder is easier to type than "herd of cats".

As to mod functions....we have a button that allows us to give your third-born a haircut by remote control. But, a button to take you to a specific members' most recent post......fuggagedit. We used to have that, I really miss that option. Moderating has always been thought provoking, but it's never before been this time consuming.

And, for everybody, it'd be really nice to still have a members primary location shown under their username. I'd not give advice such as "6mm Rem with 95 grain NBTs for everything" to someone living in South Louisiana who may occasionally encounter deer at 4 yards. Nor would I tell a Wyoming newbie that a 12 gauge does it all. As the realtors say..."Location, Location. Location".

But, back to "clowder'.  We need a leader of the clowder. His title could be "Clowder Head".

We really need to consider on this.

    I'm impressed you knew it <tips hat>
And it seemed less redundant than saying, "riding herd on this herd of cats" ;)
Plus, it's fun pulling obscure words out to use every once in a while

    Mmmm.... Clowder.

    Kinda makes me hungry.
It's a better word than cluster because a cluster of cats would be a cluster.........

Hmmm.....new conversation in the mod cave.......

    1) "I'm going to attempt to bend the clowder".

    2) "Good luck, dude, Try to get to bed before you have to be at work"

    1)"I will".

    2) "How'd it go"?

    1) "ZZZZZZZZZZ".

More like walking past the bird dog and having a covey of 40+ quail boil out of the grass and head 40+ different directions. Confusion is what it is.
