Interesting design but without the controlled feed, it couldn't compete with the '98. Kind of hard to double feed one of those!! It probably would have made a decent sporting rifle, though!!
The bolt lugs locking into the barrel is something that has been copied by many manufacturers over the last century.
the dovetail barrel block looks very neat
And that dovetail barrel block is VERY busy as to machining. Back when labor was cheap it was an option. Now it would add at least $100-150 to the price of a rifle.

I've milled dovetails on thousands of PLASTIC parts, and nary a one on steel. I hate 'em. With a passion.
Dovetails, done right, are cool. But they're extremely hard to get right. If I had to machine a truly accurate dovetail into mating parks, in steel,......well, add $1K or 2. And you still not get it.

Other than milling dovetails for sights on barrels I've only done one large dovetail of mating parts. The dovetail cutters for sights are all a little shy on width, or so it seems, so you can either file out the dovetail on the barrel, or the sight to get a good tight fit.
The mating dovetail for the big one was for a quick change toolpost I built for the lathe. Was 1.5" wide. And it was easy because of the 3/32" brass gib that is used to take up the 'wobbleicity' a highly technical machining term for 'it don't fit tight'. All lathes and milling machines I've ever worked on had gibs that have to be adjusted to take up wear that happens over time.
I can't imagine making two parts dovetail tightly together without some file work.

The dust cover is a great idea. I like the rifle and wish it had at least caught on a little. Sounds like politics to a point. Yes the Mauser is controlled feed and most likely tipped the balance, but since the inventor was in on the commission rifle, that had to play a part.
