Ordering a gun through Cabela’s- Total goat-rodeo

I had a couple off leftover gift cards after Christmas, so on December 26th, I went online and ordered a Ruger 10/22 Charger on the Cabela’s website.

I order a Millet handgun scope at the same time.

A couple days later, I get a backorder email from Cabelas.  Eh... no biggie.  I can wait a few days.

I then go and buy a .22LR suppressor.

I keep checking status.... still on backorder.  A month goes by.  Get an email from Cabela’s- Do I want to cancel?  No.  Keep on backorder.  I call a couple of times.  On backorder.  No idea when Ruger is going to ship them to us.

February...  I get another email, “Do I want to cancel?”  Nah- lets see how long this takes.  Call a few more times, same story “It’s on backorder from Ruger.”  I check online distributors- they have them in stock.  Ask Cabela’s about that “We don’t order through those distributors”

March- Check status:   “Order Cancelled”.   What... the....deep fried, candy coated HELL is going on?  I call Cabela’s “It looks like you canceled the order on Feb 26th: Customer changed mind”.  Can you look at the email I sent where it says ‘Yes, please keep on backorder?’.
“Hmmm.  I don’t know why that was canceled.”
”Can you reinstate the order?”
”No, I’ll place a new one for you.”
”That puts me at the back of the line, right?”
”Yes, and there is nothing I can do to get you moved up”
I try to get an estimate from them as to WHEN it will ship.  ‘No idea, Backorder from Ruger’

What the hell.... I call Ruger.  Nope, no backorder on the Charger pistols.

Call Cabela’s back.  There is nothing they can do to get it to me faster.  ‘Thanks for letting us know it’s not on backorder, I’ll fill out a special form to send to Order Management’.

At first it was funny, now it’s just infuriating.

Sounds like Cabela's needs to hire someone in the procurement department that knows the difference between the words 'burro' and 'burrow'. (burro-- a.k.a an ass. burrow--a hole in the ground) :)

A letter to someone high up in the executive food chain may help. If not, time to put Cabelas in the I cant even remember that store's name file.

I treat Cabelas like most in town. If they have it at a great price IN STORE. Awesome. Otherwise I will buy it from someone I trust.,

    Bummer

Couple of years ago friend of mine who's the products manager of the biggest local importer visited Ruger  and saw that they were operating at full capacity and still had troubles to cope the demand; mentioned that the 10/22 line was working 24/7.
Although due to its purchase volume Cabela's should be among the top distributing priorities for Ruger, MAYBE this can explain the backorder issues. Also maybe current protocols for orders as yours is to reset them automatically after say 3 months or so of not being able to fulfill them.

Not a fan of that particular model, but hope you get yours ASAP.

I have used Cabelas and there credit card for more years than i care to remember, never had a bit of trouble with them until they were bought out by Bass Pro, now a lot that i tried to order is out of stock, no longer carried, or on back order and I'm not liking there new credit card bank.

Cabelas has given up trying to be a top notch sporting goods outfitter. After the BPS buy out they seemed to have rolled over and quit. I have no use for them anymore

Are they going the way of Dick's Sporting Goods?

I only buy what a store has in stock . If they say it will be in later & to check back .... usually I tell them if I don't find it some place else first I may check back . Stores that don't keep there stock up suck .

It used to be that when I phoned Cabel's a person answered the phone (no push the buttons game), and they were always extremely friendly and helpful.  That went away long before Bass Pro Shops bought them, and so, I don't buy much from them any more, and they no longer send me their hard bound catalogs.  The only way I'd purchase a new gun from them is in their store, and that's a 200 mile drive for me.  In fact, Brass Pro Shops is actually closer to me.  That said, as I mentioned in another thread, the best way to order a new gun is through the Gallery of Guns online.

Love me a good goat rodeo but not when I'm ordering online.

What Jay said x10 regarding clear and troubling difference in service since the Bass Pro takeover.  Cabela's was the shining example of what a big box store should be until they were bought out.   Now?  Higher prices, no Bargain Cave, order issues, etc.  I hope it's just corporate merger growing pains...

A letter to Bass Pro might be more appropriate. Since they took the reigns of Cabelas service has sucked big time.

Looks good, now toss that hideous piece of plastic and slip it into a Boyds stock.

Ran to the range during lunch.  Ran it on the 25 yard pistol range (because they don’t allow ‘hand guns’ on the rifle range.... even if it’s obviously designed for longer ranges.  Anyway, I was able to get it adjusted to hit an inch low at 25 yards. That’s where the Bushnell Trophy handgun scope ran out of vertical adjustment.

I need to take it to 50 and 100 yards to see if I need to get different rings.  The good news was that I was basically able to make one ragged hole with 15 rounds at 25 yards.

Thursday I have blocked off time to take it out with the .22 suppressor.  That may change the POI as well.

No pics because my phone had suddenly decided it does not like being a camera anymore.

    Sounds good.

    Glad you finally got it

Burris "Signature Zee" rings with a set of their offset inserts should buy you some more adjustment, if needed (-20 in front, +20 in the rear) which might require 2 sets, so you could always put the +/-10 in one, and the +/-20 in the other
