Pain "like no other."

Well I had my first of two kidney stones.  I say two because apparently I have a 12 mm stone just waiting to drop.  So far I have only had his 9mm brother.  The pain is perplexing though.  I had always understood the pain to be like a lighting bolt or fireplace poker to the side.  Mine was more like someone had my lovehandle in a bench vice.  It slowly got stronger and stronger.  By the time I got to the E.R. my urine sample was almost black.  On the upside I scored the number of a hot E.R. nurse.  Maybe she was just being sympathetic.

    Bummer.
    Hopefully you're recovering comfortably now.

I had to swindle the nurse, (that looked to me like she should have been in high school) into letting me drive myself home upon discharge, after she wheeled me out in a wheel chair.

    Hospitals are so much fun.😕

I feel much better now.  Still dreading the 12mm.  I didn't have to wait in the E.R. because my mother, who drove me to and from, is nursing administration.  I got a few evil eyes when I was walking back from people who had been there a while lol.  You could say I got special care, no one wanting to get written up or fired.  It's always good to know people with power.

When I have a stone it feels like an upset stomach at first. Once it starts going good it feel like I have to defecate continuously.

Don't "they" do ultrasonic shock treatments to kidney stones anymore?

My urologist wanted me to wait a week, then two more weeks, before we jump to any conclusions.  I think I passed it.  I never saw it but the pain has passed.  I thought it might be a bladder infection so I took some AZO.  I took a handful of pain meds, not all at once.  The last one was just to sleep, not for pain.  I went for an x ray after my last appt and no sign of "little man" but "fat boy" was about the size of my thumb nail, sitting towards the top of my left kidney.  Hopefully I can ware it down before it gets to far through the path.

12mm is the size of a 1/2" marble.  I don't see how you passed the 9mm!  My fishing bud had a .177 stone (that's the only I know how to say it, it was the size of a bb.)  It was very painful...I can't imagine passing a stone as large as a .45 acp bullet.

Well, THAT should alleviate any trepidation he was experiencing! 🤣

My brother in law said he has seen men come in with 2mm stones doubled over demanding morphine drips lol.  I know men can be babies but come on.  I've had bladder infections that hurt worse, or as much, as this.

Lol! That was funny. Reminds me when I was at the ER and the doc was stitching a piece of skin flap over the tip of my missing thumb with nothing more than lidocaine. Someone next to me was screaming for Dilaudid because he had been constipated for a week. Doc and I just looked at each other and laughed.

When I was in last year for my ruptured appendix, they gave me daulidid for nearly about 8 hours and while it almost did make not scream it wasn't anywhere near enough, they were hesitant to give me anything more....which pisses me off as they had the freaking scans.

I have a high tolerance for pain, but stupidly I also have a high tolerance for pain killers.

Afterwards one of the doctors came in and said as much. "We weren't thinking that it was a big thing, but after getting in there, you are one tough sob. "

I don't know if not being able to pee is comparable with what you're going through, but I can sympathize with you. Good luck.

I'm not getting this - I'd be demanding an ultrasonic pulse! What's with this passing it crap?

Show your doctor this.  It says 6 or 7mm is about as large as you can pass.  I think I'd be looking around for a new doctor.

Ummm, funny you should bring up looking for a new DR.  Apparently he had a previous bike injury and required brain surgery.  The frontal lobe, which includes emotions along with other things.  He seems competent just completely blank, almost a "Bueller, Bueller, Bueller” type reaction.  It does make me mad that he keeps putting off but I’ll probably just cancel the appointment.

I don't think you can pass a 9mm kidney stone...if you do, you'll probably set a record.  And I know you can't pass a 12mm stone.  Get a urologist doctor without brain damage.

I recently had a vascular surgeon do a routine procedure performed while I was standing up. He had a "Bueller" personality that I'd previously encountered during the initial consultation.

Prior to proceeding, he told me that if at any time I felt faint, please fall backwards, so as to keep him out of harms way.

I winked at him and told him no chance I'd fall in either direction, but if he wasn't careful I might piss on his head.

He performed the procedure much better than his personality previously indicated.

I was really tired of doctors at the time.

Well I consult with my mother RN on all medical issues and she assured me that the 12mm most likely will wear itself down on the way down, if it even drops at all.  Just incase, I completed a living will because I’m sure I’ll be the guy Jeff was talking about with the knife in his head.  Speaking of falling, she told me warn them about my epilepsy if they do bath ultrasonic thing.  Someone has to sit with me.  Maybe that’s why they wanted me to “tough it out.”
