I'm pretty sure the real reason that people "don't come to Needles to shop, or to visit" because that town is little more than sand and rocks, however, I'm with 'em in spirit.  On a larger scale, however, the economic point makes good sense - - who wants to visit and spend money in a place where your normal mode of behavior makes you a criminal on entering?

The greatest pizza in the world was there in 1993 at a small joint on the north side of I-40 . . .although having spent the last three days hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back out while living largely on trail mix, jerky, and boxed rice might have had some effect on my perceptions. . .
