Beast Mode! - Rather large piggies.

Went to my friends ranch with some buddies to shoot and test some gear. In the process..........there be pigs about. BIG pigs!

And stock tanks. Where spinner baits were king.

    Did I mention the pigs were Beasts?




    .308 Win & 168gr A-Max dropped him at 125 yards. Through the shoulder/spine. Bullet lodged under off side shield.

    220 yrds running quartering away. 
    Through the on side ribs, off side shoulder, lodged under the shield.

    Has anyone told you lately that you suck?  If not, please allow me to remind you. :)

    Any idea how much these beasts weigh?  They look huge.

    Hogs and hogs, all in the same day.  Really cool!

    Unfortunately, there wasn’t a scale at this place. Well........not one that worked. 😒

    The guy in the pic with them is 200 pounds. Just for comparison.

    I believe that is “hawgs” and hogs, but I digress.  220 yards on pig #2 ?  Heck of a shot!  Did you recover the bullets?  Any chance you took a picture or weighed them?  At this point, I am guessing boaring ( intentionally spelled ) performance.

    Nice looking bass. Spinnerbaits are my go to lure.  And those are some HUGE hogs
    Down here not many eat em when that large, unless they are farm escapees that had been cut.
    But the EATS, its lunch time and you have me salavating over your pictures.  FYI Chromebook does not taste good, i started to take a bite.

    I did recover the bullets. But, like an idiot........left them at the ranch where we cleaned the pigs. 

    Bullet one was pretty thrashed. Recovered mostly jacket with a few pieces of lead. But, it went through one shields, two scapulas, a rather thick spine, and still made it to the off side shield. 

    Bullet two took out 2 ribs, the lungs, off side scapula, and lodged halfway through the off side shield. 
    It was still cup/core with the mushroom pretty peeled back from the off side scapula, I assume. 

    It ain’t fancy. Darn bullets just work like a House-a-Fire.

    I’ve only gotten a few pigs I wouldn’t eat. 

    They were scared up with infected wounds and a musky smell. 

    One of these had an infected tusk wound on his flank. But, I was able to cut that out. 

    As long as they’re clean and don’t stink, I’ll eat the big ones. 

    Actually giving these to some friends that want them.

    Those things are nasty looking. Im glad you guys killed them.

    I carried a lot of elk meat on my back that my Dad shot with a 308win and cup & core bullets. He was knockin' em' down with that rifle for years before I got the bug and took up with him.

    It’s an amazingly effective cartridge in an amazingly boring way.

    Just a sugggestion-  Hunters in Texas are reminded that 10 to 20% of our feral hogs carry Brucellosis.  It is necssary to wear protective gloves while processing and change glove ater the hides is removed before processing the meat.  And as with any pork -  cook well. I dont eat them any more. Shot 6 last Friday. Rancher here dont like them at all. Two similar two the smaller one of these two.  Saw 60+ hogs in 5 hours of hunting.

    I use the Hornady Match .308 168 grain.  One of the two bigger hogs dropped and one ran 10 yards like he wasnt hit, the stopped and dropped.  I ned to learn how to post pics.

    Gloves are like condoms. You can’t tell what the Hell you're doing.
