Yes. Another pig.

A farmer friend has been begging me to shoot pigs on a new field he is leasing. Just been so busy with other things. Haven’t been by his new place. 

Finally made time tonight. 

Pulled in and saw a large herd of approximately 15 in the middle of the field. 

Parked and started walking towards them. Got in front t of them as they fed across the field and laid down in the prone. Waiting for them to come close enough to distinguish body parts and not just blobs. 

Finally they made it into range and I picked out the largest shape that was closest to me. 

Knew it was a boar and I held for his shoulder. When he stopped, I sent a 165gr Sierra HPBT-GK through his lungs. Heard the impact and regained him in the scope as he stopped running and fell over. 

125lb boar
150ish yards
.308 Win Gas Gun
165gr Sierra HPBT-GK



He’s quartered and on ice. Gonna give him to my kids BJJ Instructor who asked for a pig. 

Probably go back again to that field this week.

    Well, that was an efficient night!  Can’t ask for much better critter cooperation than that.  
    Accuracy: because white space between bullet holes drives me insane.

    Nice!  I have a full plan to do a nighttime pig hunt soon

    Ha!  Yeah, pig take out. 
    I usually try to have a home for the pigs I shoot. I don’t like leaving them unless I have two. 

    And it’s a 5 round mag. 😉

    Didn't have homes for any more than what I shot. Besides........they’re fast once the lead starts flying and I didn’t want to clean any more.

    It dings rhem up a little. By, I guess you could reload them if needed. I tend to not save gas gun brass.

    I stopped shooting big boars. Everybody tells me "Oh ya marinate em and you can't tell the difference in a Boar and a Sow." B.S. I can. And I know we need to be shooting boars because they can breed fast and can impregnate a many sow quick. Each sow can have two to four litters a year of 5 to 10 pigs per litter. But if I shoot it, it's probably gonna get left. Hell, the buzzards gotta eat too! The only thing I will waste my time on anymore is a sow or a young pig.

    But I agree with you about what you said about as soon as you shoot one the rest scatter quick. You gotta be fast and it helps to have an AR or something semi auto. With a bolt gun you're doing good to knock a couple down before they disappear. They are fast.

    On one of the weekends between Turkey day and New Years- going to try and camp at the ranch and do a late night Night Vision/ suppressed pig blast.  Depending on weather, since I'll be tent camping

    Trying to decide if I want to go back tonight. The farmer is gonna hire a chopper in a couple weeks to clean them out and I leave this weekend for a couple weeks. So, my chances on that particular field are limited.

    If you know the land owner then maybe you won't have to pay.
    Where you're at, they practically pay you to come out and hunt pig they're so abundant. Wishing I was there 😥

    He did. But, the scale tells the tale. 

    Pigs tend to generally be grossly over estimated.

    Jaeger Pro in Georgia ought to make you their Texas affiliate. I particularly like their multi shooter, multiple synchronized shot approach to removing a bunch of animals from a group at one time.  One might think this could be excellent practice for a group of snipers in training...
