First deer with a 62gr Gold dot (Bullet recovered)

Yesterday evening, while I was getting ready for work, had 6 deer in the back yard.
Stepped out on the back deck and watched them for a while.
3 spooked and ran, 3 stuck around.
Came back in, wife was watching them from the kitchen window. I made a comment about those 3 wanting to get shot. She replied, "Then shoot one of them, but make it a DRT"

Decided "why not" came inside and grabbed the suppressed AR.
Picked one that was standing quartering away and dropped the hammer.  She dropped and flopped for a few seconds, and rolled down the hill.

I didn't have time to take a picture of her, nothing spectacular, just a 65# doe. When I was loading her in the truck, entry was 3" or so behind the last rib on the left. Noticed a lump in front of the shoulder on the right.  Took my knife and cut the skin and this is what I popped out.

Approximately 24-30" of penetration and a broken rib on the way out.

That'll do :)

    Well, that worked out alright!

Looks like it might be a full 62grs still?

    Either way, they're good bullets.

It appears to have lost a little weight on the side that impacted the rib on the way out.

I'm working tonight, so I'll try and get it weighed tomorrow some time.

Load was a max load of Ramshot TAC, Starline brass and CCI 400, plus the afore mentioned 62gr Gold dot.

Based on a single test, the gold dots seem every bit as good as the 64gr Nosler bonded in performance (Slightly behind in accuracy) and are quite a bit more econimical

Going to check a lighter 300 BO load with the 150gr BO specific GD and hopefully field test one of them in the near future.

    And thank you everyone!

You wouldn't happen to have an approximate ballpark velocity figure, would you? I would really find that interesting. For my own notes.

@Spk   I haven't chrono'd this load but it should be in the 3,000-3,100fps range.

Load's sort of "off the reservation" since Speer says the Gold Dot requires data specific to it, and they don't list TAC in their data.

My load is 25.0gr which is book max 223 and 1.2gr below the 5.56 max, but that data is for a M855 62gr

Just weighed the recovered bullet, 55.6gr or 89.67% weight retention
