Why "Trump" instead of "President Trump"?

AntonioAntonio Senior MemberPosts: 2,696 Senior Member
Just an observation from abroad:
Am I crazy or in the previous administration CNN always called the POTUS "President Obama" while at least lately they've been calling the current POTUS just "Trump"?

Are they THAT obvious in their dislike of the current President? (rethorical cuestión apparently).

Is the same pattern repeating in the rest of the mass media? Here along with CNN we only have Fox on cable, and they are completely the opposite of course.

Oh, they flat out HATE him, and it's mutual.

Dunno if you caught his White House Task Force brief on the 13th when he played a series of clips from those networks from the last 4 months that basically served to call them out on their B.S. attempts to discredit him - - to go out over THEIR networks, on THE ONE SHOW that everyone is watching right now.

He came right out when he got elected and called the press fake news and the enemy of the people. Obviously there's some truth to that, but it's still a gauntlet thrown down.

Some members here. Especially the one's that watch a lot of cable tv get mad about it. But really I think President Trump generally does quite well in the conflict. Some of these media conglomerates are deserving of a good Presidential kick in their journalistic content. So really, it seems to work out.

It is a total lack of respect.  Even though you do not like the person in the position, you respect the position. President Trump treats the Military with much respect and comes close to most protocols even though he was not a Military man, because he respects them.  Anyone remember one of our members in uniform standing in the rain holding an umbrella over POTUS head?  I doubt the current POTUS would allow that.  Remember how the Clinton's treated the Military?  Notice a resemblance?

The media has the same lack of respect for any Republican President.  George Bush was always referred to as "Mr. Bush", never "President Bush" by the media.  The main difference with President Trump is that the lack of respect always shown by the media has turned into rabid hate.

I understand some certain level of "hostility" from the press towards those in power, but when compared to the previous administration the present situation is ridiculous. I remember whenever Obama was addressing them almost the whole bunch were like the girls in Doctor Jones' archaeology class in "Raiders of the lost ark"!

My observations are that the press usually refer to a prez by his last name more than not.  I heard them refer to Obama, Bush, Clinton and so on.

It's no secret that a lot of the press hates President Trump, but I don't think it has anything to do with referring to him simply as "Trump".

The entire left-wing American media are the ass-kissing lackeys for the Demonrat party.
You can count on CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC affiliates to follow this pattern.
This includes the Movie and TV industry, and to a lesser extent the Music industry. The Rock, Rap and POP musicians are almost all leftists and the Country music people are more conservative than the rest.

The press has been leaning hard left since around 1968 and the Tet Offensive. They just got more militant after that. Or at least that's when I noticed something wasn't really copacetic with the press. I was, after all, a teenager that was rapidly coming of draft availability then. 'Unka Walter' Cronkite did a hard left then, and ceased to be a reporter, and became an editorialist that passed off his news program as unbiased news.
That said, the press has just leaned further left, and makes no bones about attacking any conservative no matter how good or bad their leadership is. They are no longer reporters of the news; they are merely propagandists with an agenda.
Like Diver43 said, it's a lack of respect. Something I remember from the military was something that was brought home in a Captain's Mast where I was a witness brought it home. A 2nd Class petty officer (E5) was unfairly charged with a breach of conduct and witnesses statements disproved the charges. He got busted to E4 anyway, and said to the officer that charged him, after the 'verdict' was handed down by the Capt, that 'With all due respect to the rank and uniform you are a blankety blank lying blankety blank expletive deleted son of a blank. Oddly enough, the Capt let it slide, and had his rank restored 6 months later, which I thought was fairly irregular, the Navy being what it was back then.
Long story short, you respect the rank and position always, but as to the person holding the rank and position, respect must be earned. The press has failed miserably for decades at earning that respect. Hillary Clinton was the 'darling of the press and the Left' and the one anointed to be the next POTUS. She lost, so the press attacked her opponent who won, Trump, immediately and incessantly. So did the Left in Congress, and it hasn't let up. He didn't fit nor reflect the hard left agenda, and didn't fail to call out both for their attacks and outright lying. This was not how former conservative Presidents had responded and it infuriated them. So their 'reporting' got more bizarre. President Trump is NOT a politician; he's a businessman that calls it like he sees it, and stomps on toes with boring regularity and stirs the pot. I find that refreshing.

I don't disagree with your premise, but I differ on the left-wing lurch of the press in 1968. It was way before that, but maybe not as wide spread until the '60's. More like prior to WWII. During the Nazi control of Germany, the New York Times refused to report on the exterminations going on there. Back in those days, the left was more openly racist and anti-semitic. I was watching an episode of Mark Levin on Sunday night FOX news a few weeks ago, and he was interviewing a historian discussing left-wing news bias, and this was one of the subjects he talked about, among other things.

Yet Mark Levin hates President Trump too! Unless I'm misremembering - I seem to recall him railing against Trump a couple of years ago.

Ultimately, its the majority electorate that is being either respected or disparaged. Unfortunately, there seems to be little consequence for mass media transgression.

Public demand for clear identification of editorial might help. Maybe the future will see such demand materialize.

Used to be that there was a firewall between news and editorial content in newspapers and the TV news. It is now more like cream in the coffee; you can't separate the one from the other. And whether Left or Right, both have an agenda to push, and do so. Once you notice the bias it's hard to believe anything  read or heard from either. The Truth is always the first victim of an ideological war, and we're living it.

As much as I have disliked certain past Presidents, I have always used the correct title and have ALWAYS held respect for the Office. Guess it's my old military bearing, not to mention upbringing. God help a certain young kid in those days who didn't say "Yes Sir'' or "No Sir" or didn't hold the door open for someone.

Levin is a Trump supporter now, with the exception of a very few things. I noticed that too, but it was at least 2 years ago he was not so much of a supporter.

If that's the Levin I used to listen to on the radio. His specialty was railing. Never saw him on tv. His radio show had its moments.

Yep, yep, yep, and yeppers. I don't believe a damn thing in the media without independent corroboration, preferably from a primary source. Which is exactly why I don't watch/read or otherwise ingest anything "the media" puts out - with the sometime exception of the BBC. As it is, I'd get better information from Vokischer Beobachter!
