    I haven’t worn a watch in over 10 years.

Easy to understand, While I have small wrists, I have large hands. That keeps the watch, while sliding around some, from actually slipping off.

You, OTOH, have little tiny cabbage-smelling carny hands. You've probably had more watches slip off than your little nasty carny hands have even stolen.

The last watch I wore with any regularity was a Citizen NaviHawk because it had two time zones. I still have it "somewhere" - but it was a constant problem because I couldn't keep it on my wrist. It was plenty rugged enough to take jarring and whatnot from working, but it was so heavy (stainless) that it would tear the watchband pins out from the body. Never really did solve that, and as I've gotten older I've become less tolerant of tight things on my wrists (see other thread) so I've given up on watches. I'm surrounded by computers and clocks everywhere anyway. *shrug*
If I were to go back to carrying a watch, it'd probably be a pocket watch like I carried in high school. But even I generally just refer to my cell phone when I'm out and about (if I don't forget to bring the darn thing that is!).

Funny!  First thing I put on in the morning and last thing I take off at night.  I can’t even imagine life without one.

I did try using my cellphone to tell time instead of a watch for awhile, but to me is so much easier to just look at my wrist instead of digging my cellphone out of its case.

I don't wear one either.  The new cheap battery wristwatches are way more accurate than a mechanical watch.  I looked up what I paid in 69, $250, and it's about $1758 in 2020.  I was amazed. I don't remember how I saved the $250 back in the day.
Your value is way off for 2020.  Depending on the Explorer model, today's value is any where from $6500 up to $19, 500.   Rolex has a strict 10% appreciation on all watches.

Last time I wore a watch was about 23 years ago or so.  My dad bought me one for my birthday.  Tried it, didn't really care for it, then broke the wristband on it and never wore a watch again.  I think I still have that watch with the broken wristband in a drawer somewhere.  Just not my thing.

Yeah, I was just relaying cash inflation, not watch value.  At the PX, there was no taxes (excise taxes?) which made it cheaper than if I'd bought it in the states.  I don't know what model it was, just a chronometer.

Yeah I saw that one on TV.  The dude is a bit dramatic about his response but I guess if he really didn't know that'd be a huge surprise!  :D

For you watch guys. Antiques Roadshow just featured a 1963 Rolex. Expert appraiser said if you send into the maker for service. Don't replace the bezel, dial, hands, etc., Just do the mechanicals. Them other parts reduce value if not original.

My Oister Perpetual Date had a broken spring and was flat dead; watch collector friend advised me against taking it to the local representative since they overcharge and actually take them to a small but very skilled watch repair shop, so with that tip took it there.
Was a little weary about leaving it but then an Arab guy with a watch more expensive than my house arrived and dropped it as he was leaving a suit in a dry-cleaning, so decided to go for the repair job. Changing the broken part and replacing a wristband pin along with cleaning it was a tad above $ 200 so quite happy about the results!

I bought myself a Rolex Submariner the year I graduated college as a present to myself.  I paid a bit over a grand and it's worth over $10K now which is nuts.  I just keep my insurance policy up on it.  I still have it to this day though I don't wear it nearly like I did years ago.  I've always liked automatic watches.  When the wife and I were in Switzerland a year ago May, I bought myself Swiss Military automatic watch for a hair over $475 Euros.  I wear it everyday.
I did the same with my first bonus.  Cost me $800 and like you said it's now worth a heck of a lot more.  GREAT investment that I wore daily for decades.  Had Rolex refurbish it once a few years back and now I wear it occasionally but I'm mostly keeping it for my son. He already has my grandpa's Omega Seamaster.

Nowadays my everyday watch is the Godzilla of Diver's watches the Citizens Professional Diver.  It's a BEAST of a watch but it has kept great time for over 10 years now and it looks like the day I bought it.

    Nice.

If I ever win the lottery this is my dream watch: Rolex Cellini Moonphase .

You cant just walk into any jewelry store and find them on display, but for around 24K an authorized dealer can get you one.
