Does RUGER still offer the Take Down SR556?

    I am not sure I understand the utility of the “take down” AR pattern rifles when the AR is already one of the easiest takedown designs made.  Push out 2 pins, and the rifle breaks in half.

    Removing the barrel from the upper does not make the overall package much shorter for transport, and increases the chance of any optic or sights not returning to zero.  

    Keeping the optic/upper/barrel in one unit and popping off the lower is a pretty good solution to the takedown ‘problem’
