Just got an original Redfield gloss base and rings for it and I have a gloss finish older Leupold on standby. She’ll be 100% period correct!
If you want to see period correct, I'll take a picture of the scope set up on mine...there are no adjustments on the scope...it's just a tube containing the optics...the windage and elevation adjustments take place on the mount...

I bought my first 88 in 1968 when I was 16 years old. I paid $144 for it, but the shop owner threw in a Weaver 4x scope with mounts and rings. I've never seen one with an adjustable scope mount.

The scope is spring loaded in the mount and since all the adjustments are in the mount, you can remove the scope and switch it with other rifles having the same mount....zero doesn't vary once the mount/scope combination is zeroed on a particular rifle....or so B&L says..
