Husky range report

Some of you will recall I bought a Husqvarna in 30 06 awhile back, the reason for the Husky was I already have one in 9.3x62 that shoots very well so was very keen on tracking down a 30 06 to pair up.
The serial number put it at manufactured in 1957, my 9.3 is 1962 manufacture.
I tried it at the range couple of months ago maybe longer and performance wasn't ...stellar, tried a couple of failsafe handloads others had advised me of with not much improvement so put it in one of the safes and left it for awhile.
I got sick of looking at it every time I opened that safe so started the project
First was a replacement recoil pad, the plastic thing screwed onto the end of the stock didn't really cut the mustard , then bedded , recrowned, did some work on the stock, mainly a wet tea towel, iron and a couple of weeks of boiled linseed oil and thought I was ready.
Bought some flash Harry Hornady Superformance 150gr at a lets not eat for a week price [over here] and went to my range and...
well 100 meters gave me this

Disappointed, yip just a little.Hadn't tried that before though so I hadn't really anything before or after to compare.
I dug into the back of the truck and came up with a box of standard Winchester 150gr Super x that I'd put in just incase and gave it a go not expecting much and resigned to selling as I wasn't going to spend any more. .... '
However. 5 shots later.

I wound the scope up for the first shot as i thought it;s probably going to be alot slower gave it to much but as you can see straight down nice little group then over and up for a three inch high zero , shot for confirmation and yip
looks like a winner with that weight and powder combo, now to get a hand load going so well.
Not bad for a 63 year old rifle.

Here is it's 58 year old companion.

The flight was uneventful, which is what one wants when one is transporting an Elephant.

Those two make a good looking family

I have a Rem. 700 .30-06 that won't shoot any 150 grain spire point bullet, but it LOVES 180 grain bullets a lot. I seat the 180 grain spire points longer due to the longer shank, and that corrected the accuracy problem. Long throat issue, best I can tell.
Those are really nice looking rifles! And a nice pair to draw to for hunting.

Take everything else out of your hunting safe except for you 223 then go hunt the USA and Alaska.
When you come to New Zealand, I'll tee you up with a 6.5x55 you can hunt Tahr with.

I agree with Mikes suggestion of trying some heavier bullets too.
