Ordered a new Trigger to play with.

A 2oz-6oz No Safety Shilen Trigger. I was looking for a new trigger to put in my boy’s rifle and saw this one on sale/clearance with only one left in stock. It was a killer deal (not price above) and couldn’t pass it up with free shipping.

Plan is to put it in one of my rifles and put the existing trigger (likely a Timney or 40X Trigger) in my boys rifle. 

Just gotta decide which rifle I want to put this in.  In any case, it should be nice!

    I'm sure this will tighten up your shooting deficiencies!  Like you have any.  I think I breath harder then two ounces.  Enjoy.

    Lets see, the average decently graded rifles trigger pull weight is 3.5 lbs?  3.5X16=56. Lets say you adjust yours to 3 oz.   Roughly 1/18th of what most people are used to.  To the average person that shoots now and then that is amazingly light.  I know I used to think so.  Then a guy we all  used to call CPJ let me shoot his rifle with a nice trigger and it made me smile.  So I did the same to one of mine a 10/22.  Then another forum brother let me shoot his hunting rifle with a really smooth and lightweight trigger.  Sixguns 300 was amazing to shoot. Luckily he had me dry fire it a few times to get the feel or i may have accidently touched it off.   I know folds that would call that light of a trigger stupid, dangerous, an accident waiting to happen.  BUT THEY ARE WRONG.  when handled properly they are as safe as any other gun.  call me jealous, you may have just given me another new things to look for and purchase.
    The Timney you recommended for my .223 bolt gun is nice, just maybe one like you ordered.........

    I have a 1.5lb Shilen trigger on my heavy .223 Rem. While I typically prefer a wide shoe on a trigger, the thin shoes of a Shilen aren’t a deal breaker. 

    My .260 Rem Benchrest Rifle has a sub 6oz Jewel (my scale doesn’t go low enough to measure 😒). So, I’m used to the lightweight. 

    Think I’ve decided to put the new Shilen Trigger on this .260 Remington.

    Well, this is officially the lightest trigger I own!  Even lighter than my Jewel Benchrest!  Though I have no way of measuring as both are lighter than my scale (6oz) will measure. 
    I still prefer the Jewel as it has less over travel. But, I can touch and rest my finger on the Jewel. Not on this Shilen Benchrest. You touch it........it’s gone. 
    Scary.

    That would take some getting used to, as a guy with only 1 or 2 drop in AR triggers as upgrades, I am usually settled in with a firm grip on things with my factory triggers. Do you think you will have to modify your patterns when shooting with it if it is that light?

    Not as long as I have a rest. Offhand would require some timing and concentration. 
    I don’t typically use the bolt guns safety anyway and this one doesn’t even have one. 
    -The bolt is down on an empty chamber w/relaxed firing pin. 
    -Bolt forward and up on a loaded chamber. 
    -Bolt Down on a loaded chamber ready to fire. 
    Those are the three ways I run a bolt gun.

    Ordered one of these today. 

    A Wheeler Digital Scale that goes from 0-12 lbs. Hopefully able to read ounces better than my spring scale. 
    Will be here Thursday.......supposedly.

    I really have to disconnect my brain from all the other things it's hardwired for to really start enjoying triggers like that.  Kinda like the elaborate process I have to go through to fire one of my Dad's Sharps replicas - it requires operating in its own zone.

    My comfort seems to run thusly - if the meat on the pad of my finger is not compressed toward the bone before the gun goes off, level of respect and caution needs to be increased DRAMATICALLY.  I don't think an ounce and a quarter even dents the ridges in your fingerprints. :D

    Ok, I adjusted the weight of pull to 3.0 Oz and lessened the over travel as low as it would go. 

    I can now actually place my finger on the trigger (touch it) and feel like I have a conscious “pull” before it goes off. That makes me feel like it’s an act to fire the gun and not a mistake. I’m happy now. 

    If you guys don’t have a trigger scale......the Wheeler is quite nice for a digital scale. 

    Edit to add: But.......you better be ready to shoot when you TOUCH that trigger. It don’t take much more.........at all.
