The Little Man and his rifle.

If you remember, I ordered the Little Man his first bolt action centerfire rifle to be “modified” by the two of us.
It arrived at my FFL while I was gone, but I picked it up on Saturday.
We started the process by letting him choose fro 2 HSP Stocks and an AICS I had on hand. Of course......she chose the AICS. Damn!
Then we installed a Remington 40X trigger.

At just over 1.25lbs.........that’ll do for the Man.
Set it in the stock and installed a Leupold Pic base.

Showed him how to do all the installments.

Mounting a Leupold Mark 4 - 4.5-14x scope and KRG Bolt Knob.

We then headed to the ranch.

also- my son has the exact same pair of shorts

He’ll never forget this. And neither will you. He’ll own other rifles, but THIS ONE will be special.

Hopefully he’ll get a chance to do that with his child one day.

That spot on your lens blurred it, but I can still  see the proud smile.  Well done to you both.

I bore sighted the rifle using the poor man’s method and got it on paper. Adjusted to to a somewhat zero and let the boy have at it. Coaching him all the way.

“Squeeze the bag......inhale......exhale....respiratory pause......press the trigger.
    His first 3 round group!

    That’ll do!!
I Attached the Surefire Suppressor and fires a couple rounds.

Adjusted the scope and let him fire a round.

We are ready to hunt!  And for the rest of his life!
When the factory ammo runs out, I will handload for him using 140gr A-Max.
I am proud of him for being the hands on this project and I am proud of him for being who he is. This was fun. Thanks for being a part.

Thanks for including us.  I’m very proud of that young man and the great job you’ve done as a father.  Wish there were more like you guys.

Youth of America - CORRUPTED!  Dianne Feinstein would be appalled! :D

I wish those KRG bolt knobs were around 20 years ago.  Would have saved us a lot of grief with the chopping, threading. . .  You might  have him play around with flipping it over to put the screw on top.  Less stuff to rub you raw as you come up with your knuckle to crank it open in a hurry.

I don’t notice it when I run the bolt. But, that’s a good idea.

Very special project, to say the least.  You should be proud of the end result and I'm sure it'll fare well in the field.

Not a typical hunting platform. But, he chose to build it as one I am quite familiar with and he himself has used.

    Like father........like son.

    He’ll do well.

Nice job and good looking rifle. By your pics, I now know why there ain't any reloading supplies anywhere to be found 😂

I’ll probably go ahead and paint the HS LTR stock for him. It’s much more trim and compact. A better “hunting” stock in my opinion. If he gets tired of lugging the heavier AICS Stocks around........we can switch.

I forgot to mention that we failed to follow standard barrel break in procedures. Ruined it by doing our own method involving diatomaceous Earth and VFG Pellets for a lapping. Then......shot the damn thing!!!

I’m pretty proud. Both in his work in putting it together and his shooting.
Guess he gets to handload for it as well!

Sorry, this thread stemmed from another thread referencing the cartridge.
This rifle is chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.

I’m not sure. Heavier than I’d have thought he’d want. But, when he was choosing the stock, he went with the heavier AICS than either HSP option he had.

Let him field it and see what he thinks. He may decide to go trimmer and lighter. Since you have it already he can try both. He may not want to change this current setup because of the bonding build. Which means......there is another build coming.... B)..Trust me, the father/son bond is a very strong thing. I always wanted it with my dad, but it was never really reciprocated. Make it happen!
