.44 Mag or .444 Marlin?

In a CVA Scout V2 Rifle?
The .444 Marlin sports a 25” barrel w/brake.

The .444 Marlin sports a 25” barrel w/brake.

The .44 Mag sports a 22” barrel w/o brake.

I already own and load for the .44 Mag so it’s a light lift to feed.
Then again, I’ve never owned, loaded for, or used a .444 Marlin. So, while it would be a new experience (which I like), I’d have to buy dies.
There is only a $25 price difference between the two. Either will wear a 1x Weaver I have on the shelf.
Thoughts?

.that thing is a thumper...do you need a thumper?
Since you already load for the 44mag, that would be my choice. Your mileage may vary.

That being said, I’d go 44 mag in a single shot. But only because 444 does nothin for me. Especially outside of a lever action platform. Just “meh...” Personal preference. 450 Bushmaster fills that role nicely.

.44 would be my call - to be loaded with big bullets and small charges of fast burning stuff for a subsonic low noise, yet high penetration option. If you need boom, thump, or range, you have plenty of other choices.
