I inherited an old Savage .22 model 5 rifle. Is this a rimfire or centerfire gun? What ammo choices do I have for this gun?

Rimfire. Specifically made for 22 Long Rifle.

ETA...it'll probably handle Shorts or Longs also.

    Welcome.

Should be stamped on the barrel, but brief net research seems to indicate a tube-fed rifle that will shoot the rimfire .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably.

FWIW, if looking for accuracy, stick with 22 Shorts for close range, and LR for longer shots. Longs (I haven't seen any for decades) are reliably inaccurate, but probably worth their weight in gold nowadays.

I have a couple of boxes on my desk right now!  CCI still makes them.  I Think Remington does too.  Some of my old .22s do better with them so every time I see some I clear out the inventory.
