The roads are skating rinks and they are predicting rolling blackouts in areas of the state.
Good thing those people with solar panels have them. They will be ready for the power loss. They work under snow right?

27 right now. Don’t think it’s been above freezing today. Sleet started about 3:30. Hasn’t stopped. Still a few cars on the highway occasionally. Bad stuff coming during the night tonight and most of tomorrow

Just took the dog out to take a wizz.  The snow was dry and squeaky.

Florida is not perfect, but I am damn happy to be here, especially in the winter. Was a bit unusual for February, but it was 80 degrees here on Thursday and melted an Amazon delivery of chocolate covered orange jellied candy.....damn, who would have figured?
Yea, what's this "cold snap" everyone's yammering about? We're in a heat wave!!

Game cam pic from this morning. Probably 3-4 inches of snow and we have been without power since about 2:AM. Just made coffee on camping gear

Luckily we haven’t gotten the freezing rain that’s been anticipated. It’s sleeting fairly hard right now with more on the way. Nothing accumulating on trees or power lines. Yet.(knock on wood)🪵🔨

I worked in my parent’s old Coleman fuel stove for 2 hrs yesterday but couldn’t make it work. Luckily I bought a propane stove Friday night. I gave it to my parents. At least  I’ve got a gas grill. I will buy another propane camp stove after this is over.

I was cooking the wife breakfast Saturday during a rain squall. Power suddenly went out. Count down from 10, the generator started, the relays clicked and life went on. Power was out for almost 4 hours - oh the humanity!

    4:30

Snowing and 19 with a stiff breeze. Temp has dropped 2 degrees in less than 30 minutes.

We ain’t use to this here.

This is pretty nice! It's +17F, which is ~25 degrees warmer than it started. A 25 degree shift in temp without howling winds is unexpected in these parts. I'll take this any day, this time of year.

41% of Travis county (Austin) is without power. The state electrical grid (ERCOT “Electric Reliability council of Texas”) said we had to do rolling blackouts. So, Austin Energy started turning off areas without confirming that they had a way to turn them back on again!

This outage was not caused by the storm- this was caused by Bureaucracy

It was a total of 36 hours with no power. Will probably be cut off a couple more times before this is over

As I understand it. 10% of TX pwr was wind and some more solar. When that froze up the problems began. However, that was not the entire cause. The gas turbines have regulators on them that of course control the amount of NG going into the turbine. Since it doesnt freeze in TX, the regulators were not heated or insulated. They froze.
So although the biggie (as I understand it) was the complete loss of 10-15% of green power when the grid was drawing 100% which it normally only does in the summer (solar and wind work then) when the AC units are running full blast, it wasnt the entire problem. Once stuff like that goes down, it isnt like flipping a switch to fire it back up.
I think since you have a socialist pwr grid, its time to write your legicritters.
It's boring, and your lack of creativity knows no bounds.
