The end of an era....the SE Shoot is no more

Miss MaryMiss Mary Posts: 743 Senior Member
This is not something I wanted to have to do, but, unfortunately, it is what we have to do.  With Mr. Jerry (Teach) being banned and unable to be in touch as he once was, failing health of some of our regulars, my own failing health due to arthritis and stomach issues, and our age 75, we just can no longer do what is needed for the shoot.

Since Jerry's motorcycle crash, his leg and his back, where it was broken, he is not up to the work involved either.  We have loved having the shoot for the 15 years we did and are so honored and humbled that so many gave up their time, and traveled here just to get together and have a shoot, even to traveling all the way from NZ!

Please know we will always think of you and want to thank you for coming.  God speed and may God bless our great country, and each and every one of you, you are much loved and will be much missed.

Could the powers that be please sticky pin this for me.

Truly the end of an era, but understandable.  Please take good care you yourself and Teach and if you guys ever decide to give Coastal NC a try I’d love to see you guys and you are alway welcome in my home.  Big hug!

I regret I could not make it the years I tried, good luck to you and Jerry, keeping you on the prayers list.

I made it to one and I am glad that I did. Really good memories. It was a blessing that you and Teach were able to give to so many of us. Best wishes to you both and Thank You.

I sure did enjoy the 3 that I was able to attend, and was looking forward to another this year - BUT - this news doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Sad to see it go, but completely understandable.

Hard to believe how it grew after that first one with just me, TennMike and y'all.

I've got to post this from back in 2008.

Is that mythaeus and his wife in the background, anyone hear from him?

Unfortunately not unexpected, but still sad to hear.
The 5 SE Shoots that we attended were some of our fondest memories.
As much as I loved all the shooting, the Bon Fire was most memorable and enjoyable

Bon fire was great, the food was great, the shooting was great - but the camaraderie was priceless! Even - maybe even especially - for a weird guy like me!

I was never able to make to a shoot, never met Miss Mary or Jerry, but have talked to you on the phone many times and consider you as my friends , wish you both well and will always keep you in our prayers.

Yes it is. Was just about to post that Al and Kasia were in the background. They are doing really well. I talk to him several times a year through messages.

Sad news but I understand completely. I will miss seeing you and everyone else.

Fun was had at the Shoots, and friendships made over the years. I guess, all told, the favorite time for me was at the kitchen table with Jerry, Mary, and various assorted folk just having good conversation and coffee. Good times.....

That was the first time Al came to the shoot and I had planned on HIM shooting the tannerite, he was using someone's scoped rifle and I guess the scope was off. He missed twice, and then Bryant wanted to shoot my K-31.
FYI, watching Kashia shooting TennMike's single shot 50BMG bolt gun was a HOOT. I had to back my truck up though, with the brake it has, it was moving my windshield so much I was afraid is was going to break
And a big thank you shout out for correct use of the words "break" and "brake"!
Its inevitable that "time marches on" and all things must end, but it still sucks! I was already planning on what to bring this year, blah, blah, blah - and looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Unfortunate news to be sure. I do hope both of you are doing well, ailments aside. When the shoot first started I was in high school, and now my hair is turning a bit grey.

I always thoroughly enjoyed hopping in the car with Eli and heading out to TN in the years that I could make it happen. As many have said, I think the bonfire was even more enjoyable than shooting in many ways.

Also a big hats off to Jerminator, he put in a TON of effort and resources to make it happen.

It wouldn't have been the SE shoot without Jerm and his fixins! Don't forget his sidekick, CPJ and the "Bum Wine".

The amount of work they out into that label was both impressive and unsettling.

    WORST memory from the shoot...
Sitting outside the Patel Motel and someone, (I Think Jerm) brought out a bottle of "Bacon Vodka"

That qualifies as the ABSOLUTE worst tasting beverage I recall ever crossing my lips
    That certainly was horrible.
Don't think it was Jerm that brought it

It was Chris (CPJ) that handed it to me.  Vile, is the adjective that comes to mind...

Ironic that the best label we’ve made went on the worst tasting vintage!

Miss Mary and Teach, I really do regret never having been able to get to  one of the shoots. As I age I completely understand the need to make changes to our lifestyles. Having met several other members over the years I know it would have been a pleasure to attend one of the shoots. As a fellow Tennessean I wish y'all  the best.

Yea, so am I. Part of the reason I bought my Jeep was to be able to drive up to the firing line!

I went twice? Three times? And it was always a blast, every time. I credit that awesome shot I made with Paul's K31 with me finally getting one a few years ago.

The food and hospitality was always top notch, and those both go without saying. Mrs. Mary always had a hug for me, and Jerry took me into his shop and gave me a few lessons after I admitted I wasn't the best with an oxy-acetylene torch. He wouldn't even listen to my whining about needing to be on the road back home.

The laughs were many and frequent, I got to handle firearms I had only ever read about, and gleaned a lot of knowledge from some very learned folks.

And those romps with CPJ will forever remain in my heart.

God bless you all, especially Jerry and Mary. Going to your place was always like going home.
