Well the 'Magnum" line of the brand is more budget friendly than the "Tree Brand". That being said my example seems quite nice. The only issue is the tang is a bit proud at the end of the knife. Enough that you can feel it. I will polish that down and it will be a non-issue. It is quite sharp and as a thrusting weapon, it seems to me it would be quite devastating. It is heavy, probably a solid 1/8th inch through the tang but it feels well balance from a layman's perspective. A little texture on the micarta scales would have been nice. The sheath is solid with the exception of the belt loop, it is probably on the thin side and I could see it wearing poorly in hard use. All in all, I'm not disappointed for 30 bucks.
Traditionally...the dirk was carried on the support hand side if you were carrying a sword...strong hand side if not and were using it as a primary arm...
The dirk is a bit larger than it looks...almost qualifies as a short sword...
