I will never buy a .22/.22mag convertible again. The oversize bore does nothing for accuracy
Agreed.
I did see someone at one of our 25 yard matches having a ton of problems with a similar, inexpensive revolver. When I went to see what was going on and see if I could help, he was telling me it was spraying fragments, hitting other people, and accuracy was horrible. Looking down the bore, it was completely fouled with lead so that it pretty much looked like a smoothbore. I asked him what ammo he was shooting, cheap bulk lead 22lr ammo. Looked at the cylinder; it had a 22 mag cylinder in it, also completely fouled with lead. He assumed it was ok to shoot 22lr out of a 22 mag cylinder.. I told him it doesn't work that way. His gun was 22 mag only. 22 mag is slightly larger diameter than 22lr.
I cleaned the bore and cylinder for him, he got some 22 mag ammo and had no more problems with it.
Unless you drop the MkIII inside a pan full of solvent, a deep, detailed cleaning of the guts of that gun is a complete headache. Did that to mine when I took it apart to swap the original sear with a Volquartsen one (Trigger improved noticeabily) and promised to never do it again. Squird some solvent & oil and do the routine cleanup trying to reach every notch & cranny with plastic & steel dental picks and that's it!
LOL. I was muttering a few unspeakable things when I did the trigger job on my Mk3. Something to be said for foaming aerosol cleaners and compressed air when doing routine cleaning on a Ruger Mk series pistol.

To me it's the worst thing you can do to them accuracy wise.
