Never had this request before.

A younger guy came in with this Glock 48 and showed me some pictures on his phone of what he wanted done. He wanted the bottom front of the slide angle cut, barrel flushed and crowned to the front of the slide, the serrations milled deeper and then a window on top of the slide with 8 large ports. Of all the things, the ports worried me the most just because of how much pressure and velocity that I assumed he'd lose. He said he still wanted it done even if that meant scrapping out a barrel. It turned out good and I test fired it. It cycles fine and the porting works amazingly well. I still have to do the serrations and then cerakote it.

Wow!  He has a 1” barrel now!  Odd request.
I’d love to know what velocity he’s getting.

I said the same thing to him. I was scared that it wouldn't even cycle anymore. I'm surprised that it seems to function well so far. If I had to guess, I'd say he's going for form over function.

There are many like it, but this one is mine?

    Nice work.

    Well executed also.

Anyone know what the angle cut is for? I'm not sure that he mentioned it's purpose.

MAYBE, aid in getting the gun in the holster?  But really, probably done because of aesthetic reasons…. I really can see no advantage.

Looks, slide lightening, ease of holstering.

That and the other slide cuts may have lightened the slide enough to allow it to cycle.
    Meh.

I can only guess it could serve a questionable purpose.
To reduce slide mass (along with the top slide cut out), this is a way to compensate for reduced velocity loads/reduced recoil impulse. They do this in competition often enough so they can use lighter loads and springs both fast and reliably. It's a balancing act. Sure doesn't look pretty. I'm guessing there could be some measure of coolness factor in there somewheres.

I wonder what the gun sounds like without earplugs 🤣

    Glad it worked out 👍

I'll bet it looks like a submarine launching 8 ballistic missiles at once.

It looks cool at least - I'm with Zee. Velocity and video!

I don't have a chrono unfortunately. Might order one though.

I've never needed one. I don't do load development. Not enough time in the day for it.

    Dude!  Barrel shortening. Porting. Rebarreling.

All need a chrono to provide your customer with much needed info!!

Eh, I can see the need but most people just tell me what they want done and I do it. The rest is up to them.

That’s interesting. Your work looks great. If the kid has enough knowledge to understand the slide needed to be lightened to help compensate for the porting, good for him. My bet is he saw it in a video game and has the money to try making his own. The weapon light also comes in handy for counteracting the temporary blindness from the muzzle flash. 🤣🤣🤣

Some people outside of the shooting sports just think it looks cool.
More power to them, it keeps folks like Justsomedude in business.
Here's an example of an IPSC race gun. It has a longer slide with a lot of cutouts to reduce slide mass. Makes it look kinda Space Aged, but at least it serves a purpose besides just trying to look cool.

Took a video of this submarine launching 8 torpedoes 😆. Can't figure out how to post it.

Or just take screen shots of the muzzle flash and post them.
