Is that Howard's Restore a Finish you used?  Looks good, so far.  I use Howard's Feed and Wax and it does a great job.
Yep that’s it.  Al recommended it years ago when I had a stock to restore that I was looking to totally refinish.  I basically said what the hell and was shocked at how well it work!
Did you use the Neutral or color match?
We have a couple of the inherited rifles could use a better wood clean up.
Color match.  I just bought walnut since that is what just about every stock I own is made out of and it has worked on every stock I’ve tried it on.  I use fine steel wool and start rubbing on the areas that have some finish left to create a finish “slurry” for lack of a better word and just move that slurry to the bare areas and kind of gently work it in.   Leave on for a minute of so and wipe excess off with all old towel/rag.  Let dry overnight and done!

    It’s a °IIIII° thing 😎

That is the same thing I would do to make old furniture look better when I had my antiques and collectable store.
