The gun you love ❤️ the most?

Wambli SkaWambli Ska Posts: 5,423 Senior Member
Time to think this through.  The gun you love the most?  Not asking the only you’d keep if you could have just one, or any variation of that question.   Don’t care how many you own. Just asking to review your guns in your heart and tell me which one you love the most, and if you feel compelled, why?

I’ll confess I need to think this one a little longer but anyone has a ready answer?

It’s a °IIIII° thing 😎

That's easy! all of them. Most of mine are special.  Without going into detail some came from my dad. some from grandpa, a couple from my great uncle and one from a classmate who died way to early in life.

Hands down the Mauser C-96 "Red 9" 9mm. pistol. Its "steampunk" classic looks and clunky odd mechanics are too much to me to resist.

Close 2nd. my M-1 Carbine. Proven reliability, accuracy and versatility in a punchy, compact platform.

My favorite has to be my 1881 Marlin in .40-65. For such an old gun it still shoots fantastic!! It always makes me giggle a little bit when I'm rockin' the 200 yard gong with it!!  B)

What a choice - but I'd have to say my Mauser Luger, closely followed by my CZ-75BD.

Rifle, 99 Savage f chambered in 308. It was ridden hard and put away wet. I restocked it had the guts cleaned lubed and trigger touched up. It wears a 2x7 Leupold and with hand loads puts three shots in a dime @ 100 yards. What's not to love

Tough call, but in my heart of hearts it would be my Krieger barreled Rem 700 VLS in 6mm Rem. I love that rifle.

I’ll have to think about it.

There are a lot that are close.  At this point just about all guns I own have some "meaning" attached to them.

But, I think for me right now it's the Winchester 88 I got last year.  It was the first gun I hunted with as a very young and totally inexperienced young man.  I had no hunting mentors so everything I knew about deer hunting came out of the mountain of books I'd read on the subject.

I spent the night before the hunt camping in a barn that was over 100 years old, slept on a pile of very old hay.  Spent the next two days wondering around the woods with absolutely NO idea what the hell I was doing and never even saw a track.  And yet the smile on my face lasted weeks!

But that HIGHLY unsuccessful trip cemented in me my love for the outdoors.  I remember sitting on a stump looking at this beautiful clearing in the woods while heavy snow was falling all around me and thinking, this must be what heaven looks like...

I never killed a deer with that gun, it was a loaner from a family member and she told me it would be mine when she passed away.  Well, life had other plans for that gun.  She passed away 3 years ago and no one knows where that rifle is.

But, now I have an even better example because it was facilitated into my life by friends HERE!!!  So it actually means a lot to me, a lot more than the original.

So, hopefully this winter I'll get to finally put down a deer with that rifle and relieve that moment when I had a glimpse of heaven about 40+ years ago...

For me it is a tie between two, but if push came to shove:  Stainless Steele Ruger Security Six in .357 mag.

Easy question, Tie for 1st place, my 1955 M-70 FTW .358 Win. bought it new in 1960, my 03-A3  30-06 one of the first custom rifles i ever built, built it in ( IIRC) 62 or 63, carried both across the states Canada, including Alaska,

It's a toss up between the 1911 that was bought for me by Dad - I shouldn't have to explain that any further. . .

Or my Redfield-peeped M1917 sporter because it shoots great and is built on the best bolt action mechanism ever made. . .

Or the CZ-452 Ultra Lux I bought recently because it's mechanically close enough to the Remington 510 single shot I learned on, but ISN'T a single shot, has AWESOME open sights, and a sight radius that's long enough for the front one to be sort of clear.  In short, it lets me be ten again.

But then you get into things like loving it for the design vs. loving it for the memories vs. loving it for how you shoot with it.  I could say I love my Glock 17 for it's utter utility and near lack of emotional attachment I have for it, but I don't think that's what you're after.

It was the #4 Mark 1 Lee Enfield. My failing eyes and finances removed them from my presence. Of my current guns, my Ruger SR9C. Constant companion.

The PC carbine. Nearly as loved. It's really reminds me of the M1 Carbine with the ease of controls.

    Mine's one I don't actually have... YET.

However, I've been in love with the style since I was a teen, and have been working on having one for nearly 5 years.

@JustSomeDude should start making it happen SOON.

A light, handy mannlicher style rifle. Mine's going to be a Ruger 77, in a NOS Ruger INT stock, Timney Trigger and a Lilja 77int contour 8t .284 barrel. I'll forgo the sights on the "real" 77INT.

    It's going to be a 7x57

In my late teens, one of dad's friends loaned me, IIRC, a full-stocked Mossberg 308. I fell in love with them then, and have wanted one ever since

That does sound like a nice rifle!! I can’t wait to see it!  I like that caliber

You mean you're not going for the shorty ported Glock? ;)

I would have to say the first rifle I ever bought, Winchester 94 in 30-30.
Bought it in 1968 on base at Travis AFB.

Today, it’s my .35 Remington Pachmayer Dominator.
As a young man in the 80s, I listed after one seeing it in gun magazines being used by Bob Milek. I wanted one, but couldn’t afford it. Fast forward A couple decades and an opportunity presented itself through a forum member and I was finally able to acquire that Grail Gun.

Tomorrow, I might love a different gun. Today, this is the one.

Yes I remember when you got that gun.  I’ve always wanted one for exactly the same reason. In the 80s I lived vicariously through Milek and other G&A writers!  I would read the magazine cover to cover, ads included, the day it got to my mailbox!

@Zee did you use that 158gr bullet on that deer?  I have those same reloads I used in my old 336 as a single shot but never used one on game.

    Yes.
    158gr XTP Handloads.
Think it was a 98 yard shot or something close.

Love that gun! If I were ever to venture into the SP game, that would be the way I'd go. Does anyone still offer such a pistol anymore?

Not that I’m aware. Still occasionally in the used market

Well the most fun to shoot is either M1 carbine or ubertti 1873 in .357.  I know the M1 is not a high speed powerful round but it is fun to shoot and easy to reload for. Same with. 357. But my favorite to own is my M1 garand.  But shooting it alot hurts the shoulder.  20 or 30 rounds is about it.

    I love this gun.

In the mid-80s I fired one that belonged to my father’s friend. From that day forward, I wanted one. Really, really bad.
Fast forward a few decades or more, and my Mentor gifts me with an original  low serial number PSP. Heaven.

I may very well be cremated with this gun. Seriously.
The first defensive handgun I ever wanted.
