Bear season started up here.

Today was the first day.
I worked until 2. Afterward swung home grabbed the guns and my son and headed up to my BIL.house. The plan was for a quick evening hunt then a few full days after.
Today was his first day ever hunting.
Think it was memorable.
He used my interarms in 7mm mag.

    Some details.
    Dressed weight was 270.
The 7 was shooting winchester 175 grain power points.
He blew the heart in half.
I went with the heavy bullet because he saw a really big one there.
He doesn't think this was it.
    Shot was 30 40 yards.
I was close enough to hear the death moan well.

Bear was old enough to have the elongated back feet. They get more like a humans feet.
    He was pretty scarred up.
Not sure if road rash or that potential bigger bear.

    This sucked to drag.
    Even down hill.
    Getting old it seems.

I'd have liked to do the zee autopsy on him. His head was huge with broken canines but even pictures were tough. It was about 1/2 hour before dusk and we had to dress him drag him and get him in a cooler.

Dang, you realize you just set the bar pretty high as a guide and a gun-picker-outer? Hope he has enough wall to display the hide.

    The hide was rough.
If you look at the first picture by the shoulder and his face. He either got road rash or was tangling out if his weight class now.

Hide has character, tells a story, but, not a cheap thing to do if it is not pretty enough for the wall.

For sure...old bear, big head, broken or worn cannine teeth= pretty cool to me.

Going out again in about 15 minutes now.

    Hoping the boy shoots one.
    Maybe just a bit smaller.
    Legs are still sore

I'll buck up if I have to but please not a huge one.

    Wow.
    He used my gun.
    My ammo.
    I gutted.
I helped drag and my poor truck hauled the smelly thing around.

I'm going to be rich :)

No money replaces the smiles you put on faces hey, nothing beats helping folks do something you love and they are successful at it, it was my attempt at absurdist humor, probably should wait a day when you are less tired ;)

It was a pain....even on the downhill beginning.

All in all just a straight line. straight through the middle of the swamp even.

We flipped him on his back and thankfully he stayed that way all the way out.
Hooked a rope to each back leg and it was one two three pull.
Go 3 feet and repeat and repeat until out.

He did stay incredibly clean doing so.

We need the "worthy" emoji back, last time my friends got one it took all they had to get it on the 4 wheeler, they drove the wheeler up some spruce boughs so it was doing a "wheelie", rolled the bear to the rear rack, strapped him to the rack and carefully backed the wheeler off the boughs, got him to stay put and tied him down some more, loaded the wheeler into the truck and then hoisted the bear off in the shed and then disassembled, kind of put them off bear hunting after that much effort.
