    Boy took his first of the season!

    Couple rounds of practice as he’d not shot my Bergara w/ the 1lb two-stage trigger. 

    Standing and shooting off the Spec-Rest, he nailed the bull. 
    And that’s how he shot the doe. Standing/Supported. 


    We were after a 3pt cull. But, he played shy this evening. I needed a deer to mix with the pig in the cooler. So, a doe sufficed.

    168gr Hornady ELD-Match
    Heart Shot

    This is the position he shot from. 

    I showed him a few different ways to place his support hand and this was the most comfortable/stable for him. So, I let him roll with it.

    I like that rifle. Recoil is more than my many other .308s because of the lighter weight. But, it’s a comfortable and accurate rifle. Just “bounces” more than others.

    Dad use to do “ball and dummy drills” with centerfire rifles with us. I know you hate it but, the 300 blackout is a great low recoil training round…

    There is a dead deer in this pic....
    This might help .........(closeup) Deer is slightly left of centre...
    2nd year spiker. 97 metres, very steep downhill into the top of the neck, shot while its head was down completely shattered the top of its neck before the projectile unzipped its brisket. Part of the jacket went into its rear right leg.. dropped on the spot.....Heart pumped enough to drain its blood .DRT.
    Tikka T3lite in 7mm08
    120gr Sierra pushed by a healthy dose of Varget.
    Projectile not recovered.

     
    Still enjoying the trip of a lifetime and making the best of what I have.....

    I am sure there is mixed feelings in all of that.
    Dropped at the shot has to be a good thing-Good for him.
    Glad your rifle was used, as it is a given in terms of it's readiness.

    I was very glad he dropped. Aside from wanting a good shot, not wounded and not tracking, I wanted it quick. 
    Well placed, the bullet did its job. He didn’t even kick. Right through the aortic arch.
