Where did I put that phrase that is often repeated on here........?

Oh, there it is...... " I am thinning the herd"........ :D

Just sold my Ruger Model 77 MKII in 204. Havent used it since I bought the Howa 204, so I figured I would take a leaf out of Wambli's book and 'thin the herd' so to speak.
And, still following the example that Wambli set................. I bought this...... ( I mean, thats how thinning the herd works, isnt it?)

Yep, its another Tikka.
A Tikka T1X in 17HMR. Found I had a spare scope I had forgotten about .......Its a VX2 6-18x40....so It has good eyes...
Initial impressions.
Its in a full sized Tikka stock, the same as the stock on my tX3 lite ( they are interchangeable) and it has a full sized rifle feel to it. The trigger is also the same as the triggers in the TX3 and can be adjusted the same. Rifle comes with a 10 shot mag ( got a second mag to go with it) Have a DPT 22magnum suppressor for it which also is suitable for the 17HMR ( 5 baffles). The suppressor makes it slightly muzzle heavy which suits me.
The T1x is easy to handle and shoulder and it comes up smoothly, no doubt due to the full size stock like my 243 and 7mm08. ( Muscle memory baby) The bolt is slick and smooth, the half cock is positive and the safety is crisp.

It fills the niche between the 22 rimfire and the 204 both of which I use regularly on pests....on the basis that the 22lr gets me out to 75-90m the 17HMR will take it from there to 150/200 depending on the wind and the 204 will go much further/buck the wind better......

Range report will follow, hopefully in the next few days.
As far as thinning the herd goes, I have 2 more rifles pending a sale so I am trying to figure out what to get to replace them.......... ;)
Thanks Wambli for setting me on the right path...............

You should really like that 17HMR for pest control.

Hope the ammo isn't too bad down there.

You don't shoot much for pests varmints either though.
    The 204 is worth trying.

Its fast accurate and hits hard.
If I were to compare what it does to another cartridge class it would be like the 25's

I picked up a .17hmr from a forum brother a while back.  It's a thumb hole savage and find it super accurate.
Even my mediocre skills had the metal targets pinging.  Great pick up for your small stuff.

ScooterTrashes main pdog rig was a .204 Ruger. Mine was a .223 Rem. On windy days I'd outdistance him by 100-150 yards easy. Just saying.

This is "thinning the herd" FAIL. You're not paying attention. Sell one, buy (at least) TWO! :D;)

Now that my kids are adults I don't have a problem making room in the safe. They all got 24 gun safes for their housewarming.
