Covid in Whitetail Deer

Just read several articles on covid antibodies found in whitetail populations at very high rates.  There are reports from TX, IA, PA, NY, MI.  The current speculation is that the infection source is waste water, but I have read no definitive test of that hypothesis, nor have I read of any mass whitetail die off.  If it’s not one thing its another.
