Ruger American Ranch Rifle?
I've kinda got myself glancing at these things. I seem to recall maybe a couple of you guys having one. Just curious on anyone's experience with them.
There are a few reasons I'm looking into getting one chambered in 5.56/.223. First, I don't own a bolt rifle chambered for that cartridge.
I have a bunch of gas guns and a pistol. But I want a bolt gun. Second, I like the threaded 16" barrel. Ready to take a can and not be excessively long. Third, they take regular AR mags, which I have a bunch of. Thinking about setting one up with a relatively light 4-12X scope. No particular use in mind, other than a suppressor ready beat around gun for anything from coyotes to possibly deer. pretty much, a "can" ready rifle to beat around in the desert.
First thing I notice though, is they seem to be hard to find in that chambering right now. Seems to be plenty of them in 300 BLK and 450 Bushmaster. But Gunbroker is one of the few where I find them in 5.56 and they are $600ish... That's a bit steep for what it is, to me..

Buds had some last week but they didn’t last long.
Oh, and probably closer to $1500 with the can if I paid that price for the gun. $600 gun with shipping, plus $20 transfer, plus $80 QD mount muzzle brake, maybe $300 for glass and rings puts it at $1,000 before adding the can.
I'd really prefer to keep it under $500. Just gonna keep looking and wait for something to come up that's a little more reasonable than $600.

If the price on these formerly-cheap guns that are largely made of plastic and held together with roll pins is getting to the point of giving us pause, it is probably worth taking a minute to look at what the NICE rifles are costing. If the Ruger American was still $350 and the Hawkeyes $1000, I can see making the economic compromise. But when the American is $600 and the Hawkeye $1100-$1200, it does tend to make me go "hmmmmm".
But then I've kind of gotten to the point where I'm regarding even the Remington 700 as a newfangled, cheaply made piece of almost-crap, so what do I know?
I too am looking hard at the "backpacker" CZ. I've got to get my hands on one of the 600 "post-Mauser" actions and see if it's worth my time.

Now I've gotta buy a scope, rings and muzzle brake/can adapter...
FWIW - Total for the rifle, scope, rings and muzzle brake shipped is about $850. The brake alone is $80, so about $770 for the scoped rifle.
Good luck in the scope. Curious your opinion. I have a Crossfire II and while functional, the glass quality is dismal. The edge falls off fast and blurs out.
I shot at a coyote here at my place yesterday. Little bastard.. was in the house and heard the dog get mad. Looked out the front door just in time to see my dog charge up to about 7 yards from the yote and it stood there looking at her. I reallly thought they were about to fight. By the time I snuck out and grabbed my 17 HMR, what I had loaded and ready that would fit that task, the yote was trotting down my fence at about 175 yards. Gave it a little lead and put the horizontal crosshairs even with its back and sent one. The splash through the scope looked like my bullet went right under its tail. 😣 Not quite enough lead for that distance and speed, I guess. Next time.
