Thinking about trying one and am wondering the pros and cons of each?

My wife uses Abbots Freestyle 2 system, and she loves it over the bloodchecks every 4 times a day. She uses her smartphone for scanning the module, it has a NFC connection with her phone wich gives an alarm at Hypos or Hypers, you can set the alarmtriggers in your phone-app. She wont go back to needles.
The modules are in our insurance and last for about 14 days.

Thought about one but since I only have to check once a day...well...the finger stick isn't a big deal..

I am in the same position as Jayhawker,  only check in the morning.  The Doc just took me off Metformin and level has been pretty good

After losing weight and a better diet my A1C is now in the “normal” range with just a low dose of Metformin daily and a weekly Ozempic shot so my doctor said I don’t have to stick myself anymore.  I just have my blood drawn every 6 months for my bi-annual and he renews my prescription and we’re good to go.

Sounds interesting.  Had a chance for a free libre sensor,  so am giving it a try

My insurance won't pay for it unless you have to shoot insulin 4 or more times a day. So that's out. Plus it's about 80 a month plus that for the meter. The sensors have to be replaced every two weeks I think. Some are allergic to the adhesive.

For me at least its extra expense and I don't really need it if I am vigilant.

I’ve looked into it and they have programs to get the system free all the time as long as you can get your doctor to prescribe it.  The thought is to get you hooked in the sensors of course.  Same way they give away the monitors and then bang your insurance for $50 strips.

Even though I don’t need one I was thinking of getting one just to wear it for 2 weeks and test how different foods affect my blood glucose level real time.  I think that’s useful information.

You can use the free app from Abbot for the readings, do not need the special meter.

It connects with your phone trough NFC, you can activate the sensor-module with the phone-app. The app has way more possibilities than the meter has, my wife shares all her readings with her doctor real-time.
The system basically is intended for diabetes 1 patients

I think the question is...mechanically...how does it get a blood sugar without blood?

That round 1 inch. module has a 4 mm tiny needle that is inserted when you stick the module to your arm.
You can shower and swim with it, no problem.

I didn't even feel it pierce my skin when I put it on yesterday.

They do warn you that it tracks serum glucose level and  that it's a little slower to respond than actual blood glucose levels.
