HOW A bout this in the used rack.

I dont think it ever was.
It's a S&W 1500 in 7mm remington mag.
They were marketed by Smith for only about 2 years in the early 80's so it's right around 40 now.

I had the right scope base and a spare scope and all the reloading
necessities from the one I gave my BIL so guess I'm back in the 7 game.

I've heard that about the Howas.

I didnt look it over much before buying and expected it had been used until I was going to mount the scope base and it hit me.

No sights. Never had a scope base....hey this thing is NOS.

    I am slow sometimes.

    Nice find!

Thanks...it's been at that store for over a year that I recall.
I had a shotgun from him that wasn't going to work for me so this was a trade up.

I asked if he'd take back that other double as I was too concerned with the bore.

He was fine about it so I just traded up a bit as I had everything for it.

    Sorry about that.
I worked and got carried away prepping it.

A lot of people dont like this style stock but I do.

I know it is not everyone's cup of tea, but I like that classic look. If only you had some ammo too......lol

    Goegeous! 😍
Looks just like the Weatherby Vanguard I bought 37 years ago.
Mine came with a Weatherby branded scope.
I still like the Monte Carlo stocks.  I guess I'm not tactical enough. 😉
    That's all I got.

He did get all my factory rounds.
I could improvise though I think.

Not a fan of that style stock.  Heck of a score though.  Nice title.  I see what you did there.

I have a 1500 mini in 6.5 Grendel and it has shot well. Some of my better groups are with it actually.   My dad has a Weatherby branded Howa in 6.5 CM and it shoots well.  I have debated a Howa 1500 as a base for a few ideas.

That looks like a model 1700. If it is I may not like you. I have been trying to buy a 1700 to go with my small collection of S&W rifles. I have a 1500 in 7mm and it shoots fine untill the barrel heats up but the stock touches the barrel and someday I will bed it and free float the barrel and see if that helps. I am jealous.

    Love the cartridge!
Always liked Howa and Weatherby Vanguard rifles.

    KH it is a 1500
I did have to look and see what a 1700 looked like.

This is only getting a fixed 4 and with the sporter barrel on it set so only the first cold bore shot matters.

Mine doesn't have a grip cap, maybe that was an option. A snabel (don't know how to spell it) forend is on a 1700. The first 2 shots are fine in mine then they start to move if you don't let it cool. That is why I never have gotten around to fixing it but I was going to try it sometime to see if it improved it any.

    Good score indeed.

Looking forward to your range report.

I have the Weatherby Vanguard version in '06.

I am not sure I would have ever tried a Howa if Remington hadn't gone kaput.

It's is a good shooter and seems to improve as time passes.

As mine is a entry level rifle I am not 100% happy with the stock, so a Bell & Carlson, or McMillan aftermarket stock is in the future.

I'm not sure if I want to try
    4831 or 7828 for a powder.

    I got it on paper.

I wanted to use up some 154's for the task as I have a bunch and save most all of the heavies for hunting loads.

    First shot was very low
May have got carried away adjusting :blush:and second was very high.

After that just dialed it down and right a bit.
    Definitely has potential.

These shot well enough right off the bat  I'll probably make up a batch of a box or two.
