Things you were wrong about as a kid?

There are a couple of big ones for me...

The 1st, shaving. When I was young I couldn't wait to get "big enough" to have to shave. After a LOT of years of shaving, I miss not needing to.

The 2nd, school. I couldn't wait to graduate from school. Looking back, I didn't realize how good it was. Off every weekend and holiday plus summers off. What's not to love??

So, what are some of the things you looked forward to as a child, that you realize weren't all you thought they'd be once you grew up??

“I can’t wait to grow up so I can do anything I want!”

Yeah.  Still working to get to that “do anything I want” stage.

The day I went to see the Air Force Recruiter, he was being stuffed in a SP car. So I signed up with the Army.....

Not an exaggeration. Did one in Alaska where they literally put out tablecloths IN the field.......

Shaving? I certainly have heard enough stories about boys who just couldn't wait to start shaving. Never made any sense whatsoever to me - I hoped and prayed that I'd be one of the rarities who didn't develop facial hair. I was doing pretty good until I was about 20-1/2, then it suddenly came in with a vengeance! So I put up with shaving for about 15 years, then said "I hate this", and just let it grow. I still have to keep it trimmed, but at least that's every few days, not every damned morning! I've thought about getting it lasered off, but that's painful, expensive and I've come to kinda-sorta like the beard after all these years.

Had a 5 year intermediate period where I only had a moustache, but grew the beard back as I didn't like some of the people some were saying I looked like - and found I detested shaving just as much as I remembered detesting it...

I must have been in a different Air Force, never saw a catering truck nor table cloths even in the chow hall.
We did have a bunch of guys get food poisoning on Thanksgiving one year though.

    Where do I start???

Couldn't wait for high-school to end... forever (especially Math)! It's both amusing and ironic now considering my occupation.

Couldn't wait to jump a 10 speed bike over a poorly assembled rickety ramp (didn't have BMX style back then). Btw, that's a good way for a kid to neuter himself.
BB gun fights. I thought that would be cool. Jumping off the roof of the house (bad idea). Minibikes on paved roads (lots of blood).
I often thought my dad was wrong about a lot of things and was just being overly cautious but looking back, it's just that I was an idiot and he knew that already.

I honestly thought I'd be dead by 20, (that didn't happen). I thought everything would be right with the world once I turned 18, wrong again.

Not a good track record of getting things right until I joined the military and they managed to beat some sense into me through repetition and exhaustion.

I'm still disillusioned by the fact that the Dow "Scrubbing Bubbles" don't clean away soap scum like their cartoon ads of the 1970's depicted.

In reality, they're quite thoroughly lazy bastards. :D

Thought that once i was totally grown up, I would have a pin up model for a gal/wife and have sex all day and night, just as often as I thought about it.
Guess I still haven't grown up yet.

At 12 I imagined sex would be amazing  and girls would be a lot of fun.  I was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT on both counts 👍👍
