My only recollection of an M1A was rapidly exiting a ditch due to necessity. A couple feet later, I realized I'd left it behind. I reached back and grabbed it by the barrel. Instant fry, and I carried that scar for years.

Good looking rifle. I always thought they're better looking than a M 1. Scoped, you would do well to get a cheek piece if you intend to shoot it more than a few times. We taped shooting gloves to the stocks, but we shot a lot of rounds.
Concealed carry is for protection, open carry is for attention.

Seriously, if I could find a 1-6, 1-8, or maybe 2-10 that's got a straight mil-scale reticle and 1/10th mil clicks instead of some trajectory-matched BS, I might take the plunge. Kinda wanting to built up a faux No. 4MK1 (T) with something like that as well - - - not a lot of tactical reticles calibrated specifically to .303 British.
Ok, had other stuff.... The way you have you sling is "army" correct, but the frogs/dogs are on the outside. To make a usable loop sling that you can get in and out of that will tighten on your arm and stay there, they need to be on the inside.
Well, tried to sight the rifle in on Friday with the 10x Leupold but the scope didn’t have enough elevation adjustment (56 MOA) and it bottomed out at 8” high at 100 yards.
So, I went home and tried another scope on another rifle. It had 81 MOA of adjustment!! That should do it! Swapped them out and hit the range this evening.
She now wears a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x scope with target turrets and duplex reticle. Hey, whatever it takes to get her up and running.
Tried 3 different factory loads. Started with Federal Premium 150gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. And that was a resounding Hell No!
Then tried Federal 165gr Tactical Bonded (Trophy Bonded Bearclaw) and that actually wasn’t bad!! Most guns don’t like this ammo!!
Finally, I tried 168gr Hornady ELD-Match TAP and of course it shot it comparatively well.
Amazingly, this is one of the best shooting M1As I’ve ever shot. The trigger is heavy and the horizontal deviation I believe was me as I was resting the butt on top of the sling, on top of the rear bag and was getting side to side wobble. That, I think I can remedy next time.
I’m going to run with the 165gr Tac Bonded as……well…….not a lot of guns like that ammo. I only have two others that do. I have a lot of that ammo. So, I need guns that shoot it well enough for purpose. This rifle doesn’t need ELD-Match accuracy. The Tac Bonded accuracy will serve it well. Case closed.
I love this rifle. Can’t wait for deer season!!
