Lever Action Rifles

I have been fortunate to own several Marlin and Savage 99 lever actions that scoped, will shoot under 1 inch at 100 yards and some under 1/2 inch. Not all would shoot that well but the latest I purchased is the forgotten 219 Zipper. The 219 was developed in I believe 1937 and like the 22 High power and 250-3000 Savage velocities will run over 3000 FPS. In our search for high velocities we have forgotten about some of the old rimmed calibers and other fast cartridges. Take a look see and perhaps a lever gun may make it into your collection!

Your right and finding brass to load is extremely hard to find and expensive. I am too old and lazy to reform from 30-30😊

If I found a rifle in .219, I would just have to try reforming some cases for it, although it would be tedious!!

    I’m particular.
    I’d like a .308 Win or a .243 Win.

My grandfather swore by a Savage 99 .243 as his main deer rifle the entire time I hunted with him or knew of his hunting. That's actually a partial reason that I killed my first deer with a Remington 700, that was his backup rifle!

I myself have had a few lever guns come and go, but I do have a Turnbull Restorations Henry Big Boy in the works that will probably stay with me for good.

I've got a couple of Marlins, including a Model 39 (.22) and a .30-30 and two Savage 99s in ,300 savage and both in excellent condition.  I had a scope mounted on one of them and it shot MOA, but I took the scope off and put on a Marbles tang sight on both of them.  I like the sleet no-scope look of the rifle.

Also have a Winchester 250, cheap .22 rifle the first rifle I ever bought.  But generally, I'm not a particular fan of lever rifles.
Concealed carry is for protection, open carry is for attention.

I have tang sights on most of my lever guns, makes a BIG difference for me!! Except my 99 in .30-30, it came with a scope in a Stith mount.

First deer I shot was with a borrowed Savage 99 in .243.  A Savage 99 is on my Grail list.  I used to want one in .308 or .243… but now I am leaning toward a 300 Savage or something else obscure.

Currently I have several lever guns, and I consider myself something of a fan.  Everything from .357 Levers all the way up to a Henry .45-70.

AAMOF, I think I need to take the Henry out to the range this weekend.

I like them ok and have a 1949 mod 94 32 Spl that I unbubbaed, and a 99 in 300 Savage. Neither is my go to for anything, but you just have to have one or two.
It's boring, and your lack of creativity knows no bounds.

    I have a few levers.
An older Winchester Mdl 94 that belonged to my uncle. I need to date it some time.
A Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 that’s quite a beast.
A couple Rossi. One stainless 16” with scout scope in .45 Colt and another 24” Octagon with tang sight so chambered.

I like them all. Still wanting a 99, though.

The only lever I have is a Golden Boy in 22lr.
Even though rifles don't call my name very often, the 99's have always intrigued me. I would like one in 250 Savage or a 300 Savage

I had a Win model 94 30-30 growing up.  I sold it to get my first bolt action rifle.  I still own my pops 1940's era Win Model 94 .32 Win Special.  I used it for a full season of deer hunting a few years back and took a small 5-point on the last day of deer season.

    I've got a thing for Savage 99's, have an M1899 in .303 Savage, a .22 Hi-Power and a .308.

    I'd like to add either a 250-3000 or a 30-30.
    Wouldn't turn down a 25-35 either, but they're hen's teeth stuff.

I've had a few. The first was a 94 in 30 30. I t served as my deer rifle for years. Later in life, I bought a BLR chambered in 7-08 and shortly after a 1957 era Savage 99 in 308. I couldn’t keep both. Though they each have their advantages and I really liked the BLR, but I sold it because of the saddle stock design and my need for a scope. A friends' dog bit me pretty bad and to make up for it, he bought me a Marlin Guide Gun in 450 Marlin. Nice gun, but way more power than I needed. I eventually gave it to my son. Ya can't love levers without a .22, and I own a BLR 22. That is the perfect match for my Single Six.

I have 2, a Henry. 22 which is dead nuts accurate and a ubertti 1873 in .357.  Slicked up for SASS and I have never really shot it much over 30 yards but it is great with lightly loaded .38 spl.  I need to get it out to the range and see what it can do at 100 yds with .357s loaded in it.

A few have gone down the road but currently off the top of my head:
    Winchester 1894 in .30 WCF (early 1900s)
    Winchester 1885 in .38-55 (Uberti)
    Winchester 88 in .308 (pre-64)
Winchester 1873 in .45 Colt (Uberti)
    Winchester 1876 in 45-60 (Uberti)
    Marlin 1894 in 32-20 (early 1900s)
    Marlin 39 Centennial in .22lr
Savage 99 Takedown in .300 Savage (1940s rifle IIRC)

I think that’s it….  Need an 1886 in 45-70 for my life to be complete 😁
