Allow me a moment of unbridled papa pride...

After separating from the Air Force my daughter is now fast tracking her way to becoming a commercial pilot.  Yesterday she did her first solo and I could not be more proud of her!!!  I can't WAIT to get on a plane with her at the yoke.

Her first time in the cockpit was only about 2 months ago.  She is on a schedule where she flies almost every day (sometimes multiple flights) so she can crush this and get all her required ratings including her instructor license in less than 2 years and then join a regional as a FO to complete her training.  Her fiancé already flies an Airbus A320 for Delta so we'll have two airline pilots in the family.

My girl is a rock star!  <3

Way to go!  Pride is justified.

    Proud indeed!!!
Was she always interested in aviation or did she catch the bug from her fiance?
That's a heck of a vocation to jump into but since she's an Enzette, I have no doubt it's as good as done!

Now I feel a little bad that when I was boarding I would glance at the cabin and think "Alright, we're flying with Captain Hottie today".
Never even entertained that she was less of a Captain.
    That's all I got.

They are predicting a serious shortage of pilots that’ll go on for at least the next 5+ years.  During Covid a whole generation of pilots hung up their uniforms for good and retired leaving a huge gap.

My daughter’s fiancé made Captain in a big hurry based on his military experience and flat out cut out the regional experience and went straight to the mother ship.  From application to job offer was 2 hours and can you start on Monday.

And it’s not like you can manufacture them quickly and the barrier to entry is the horrendously high expense of the training unless you go military and they are not even meeting their quotas.

My daughter is lucky that she can swing the cost of the training and more important, the flight time.  Not many can swing to take off every day to train, even less multiple times a day.  But that’s the only way you can do it in such a short period of time as she’s doing it.

Her Fiancé has been a huge influence in picking this career and cheerleading the effort but she absolutely loves it on her own.  Mom beat…. ahhh… TAUGHT good work ethics from childhood and I just provided the genetics with the stupidly hardheaded no-quit attitude.

The gold wings are as good as on her chest already 🤣

Friend of my wife has a son in the Air Force Reserve. He was a crew Chief on a C-130. He just re-upped and changed his MOS to C-130 pilot.

I've reached an age where living vicariously through my children is desirable and much easier on my bones...  :D

But I AM, damn proud of her AND her brother.

Crazy, It's probably out in the news all over the world that the USA grounded the fleet of F-35s because of ejection seat "issues".

My son is the guy sorting the "issues" out and getting them back flying  B).  Who knew that a kid who could not figure out where his dirty underwear belonged would be capable of such things and responsibility...  :D

That looks like a fun aircraft. I did a bunch of my training in a Piper Tomahawk, It was a T-tail design like that. Very responsive but slow which made it a like easier on gas for burning those solo hours away.
