In the car on the way to work, been watching the History Channel this AM, sad and pissed all over again, incredible stories from those that were in the towers. Anybody know if any of the criminal 9/11 planners are still at large?

Fishing-----found out about it when I came in to the Base wash rack to flush the outboard motor and a Base public works employee came by and told me about it.
Driving. I still remember the Walmart I was passing and the DJ on the radio saying a plane had hit and then wondering how a pilot could manage not to see the world trade center in front of them. Then when the second plane hit, he realized the first wasn't an accident and freaked out

I was in my Company apartment in Florida where I lived during the week since I was living in New York and working in Florida. I’d flown out of Newark the day before and was scheduled to fly back home on Thursday night like I did every week.
I called my wife and turned on the TV as I did everyday before work and we were both wondering why the North tower was smoking when the second plane hit.
I tried flying back home next day obviously to no avail. Then I tried on Thursday but my flight was the LAST one cancelled that night. It was me, two pilots and a stewardess at the gate. Airport was closed and they cancelled our flight 10 minutes before departure.
I went to National rental car where I rented a nice convertible every week and told the manager I was driving my rental to New York that night, the lot was empty. He knew I was in the airport and he waited before closing the place until he knew what my plans were. When I told him he took my keys away and gave me the keys to his personal company car, a brand new full size luxury sedan.
I left Miami at 1:00AM and got home to New York at 9:00 PM. Pretty much drive through meals and pee stops to gas up. I did stop, as everyone did, on the NJTP on a bridge where we had a perfect view of downtown Manhattan and the huge smoke column slowly rising high into the sky. I parked in the middle of the road as everyone did…. Stayed there for about 10 minutes, it seemed like hours.
I was back on an airplane next Monday one one of the first flights to leave Newark. Takeoff was into North winds and the pilot veered slightly East so we could get a view of the site from the air…. It took my breath away. There were 3 passengers on that plane. We didn’t talk at all during the flight…
A dance sister got grounded in either Houston or Dallas, and had to rent a car to get back home to the SF bay area. She and 3 strangers went in on it. It was QUITE the adventure, apparently.

I was in a Department of Defense Emergency Operations Center...Watched the whole thing go down...by the time the second plane hit we had already figured out that we were being attacked and Bin Laden was behind it...Hell of a day...we ended up staffing the EOC24/7 until the end of November...

I was driving to work when the first plane hit. I was working at Apple in the education division, and when I got to work, I was able to see the second plane hit live on the projector in the big conference room.
It was a quiet day, except for getting a call from a School in NYC… I got to tell the teacher to look out the window and see the burning towers.
One of my coworkers was in the city at the time and ended up renting a Ryder truck in New Jersey and driving back to Texas in that. There were NO flights or rental cars available- so he slept in the back of the truck in a goodwill sleeping bag while making his way back..

THE DEFINITION OF GUN CONTROL IS HITTING THE TARGET WITH YOUR FIRST SHOT
It was Tuesday morning.
I had returned home late the day before after a week long ocean kayak run
in the Northwest. I was the only one out
of the group that opted to travel on Monday. I was preparing to head to the office
listening to the market news when the commentator announced smoke from World
Trade 1. I watched as the second tower
was hit. Sat down in shock, realizing
what was happening. Drove to the office
listening to news on local radio. Companions remained in the Northwest for about a month. I think of that day almost every time I pick
up my spyderco clip carry knife I had bought at the very beginning of that trip.
I was at work (7a-3p) filling drums. Coworker came by and told me of the first tower. Another came by soon after with news of the second. I stayed busy until 3 then went home and watched the news for the rest of the day.....

Like I said, i was at work. Back then i still smoked. I had gone outside to the smoking area. SOUTHCOM is located in the flight path for MIA. We all watched in awe as a 747 literally made a u turn. It sounded like it was screaming as it made a turn I didn't think possible for a plane that size. The people onboard must have been terrified. After going inside I learned of the recall and all planes being grounded.

I was salmon fishing on the Columbia. Guy I was with his wife called and said “you’ll never forget where you were at today find your radio” so we tore the boat apart finally finding the radio turned it on for a bit then headed in. I was going to school and working part time at an outdoor type store. When I showed up they had a tv on the counter and the owner spent the whole day trying to call his brother in NY city. I don’t remember a single person coming in that day. I don’t remember how long but it was days before the owner heard from his brother. College canceled class for the week so I worked and fished everyday work was boring not a lot going on.
Fishing we went to fish the slot below a dam on the Columbia. We had fished it a lot in previous days. Motored up to the head of the slot and things went crazy quick. I guess the dam was on full lock down. We were escorted down river not at gun point but guns ready. Basically couldn’t get with a mile of the dam till the next season.
4 of us had loaded our quads on a car hauler the day before. We all saw it on tv that morning and it was a strange trip from Flagstaff to Ouray, CO. Listened to the radio all the way, of course.
Next day, taking the first break of the first ride. . . pretty far from anything that makes noise, I remember sitting and noticing how quiet it was with no airplanes whatsoever.
We saw one the next day. Had to be some important mucky muck to have been flying that day.
ETA, the middle of the woods, on a mountain with a weeks worth of supplies isn't a bad place to wait and find out if the world is ending. 😵
I was working, riding Engine 5, JCFD. Lt. called to tell us to turn the TV on. I asked which channel, and he said, "It doesn't matter!" Off duty guy stopped in to watch the coverage, we all watched the second plane hit.
I was in Worcester mass, just outside Boston, at a conference. Only one guy in the class had a phone with internet. He interrupted the instructor and announced a plane hit the first tower. It was hard to pay any mind the rest of the class. At lunch I went back to my room and was glided to the TV. They closed Logan Airport so next day I called the office and asked what I was supposed to do. By Friday a couple airports in surrounding states had opened up. They gave me an option to drive a rental to one or drive all the way back to alabama. The rental car I had could not be a one way so I had to go back to Logan. Talk about eerie. Very few lights on in buildings, cop cars sitting all around it with their lights on. Long lines for cars. The drive back home was amazing. Patriotism everywhere, crowds in cities with flags waving, chant of USA, USA. How far we have fallen since that day.
