I met my wife in the Navy. We were both Hospital Corpsman. In total, I served 13 years and she 15 years. It was our honor and privilege to serve this great country.
US Army 4/70 to 4/73 Medical Laboratory/Blood Bank Specialist, last post 655th Medical Company, Landstuhl, Germany. This pic was taken at the 655 just days before ETS'ing out, hence the sh** eating grin on my face.
I was going to PSU after I got out and a girl was wearing a USMC sweatshirt, so I asked her where she was at. I got a blank stare back. I said "your shirt, USMC" She said it wasnt her shirt she was just wearing it and asked what it meant. I told her "The University of Science Music and Culture. I just did a 4 year there" and walked away.
It's boring, and your lack of creativity knows no bounds.
I was in shortly after Viet Nam. Public appreciation for Marines, and our own morale, was likely at a near all-time low. "Uncle Sam's Marijuana Club" was an apt moniker at the time. Not something I was interested in, but I served with one guy at LeJeune who I don't think I ever saw not stoned. After a routine evening of partying he'd wake up at 2AM, take 3-4 hits off a joint, then go back to sleep. And he started his day at 6AM just the same. I doubt one could get away with that today.
