Got some pieces of elk antlers and decided to give it a go. Its fun to work with but stinks when worked. I can see why they charge so much for them. The knife is a blank I got some where in the past and had laying around.
Good for you! It's great to acquire new skills. To get the edges flush with the metal I install the grip and outline the metal onto the inside of the grip with a red thin sharpie then take the grip to a fine belt sander and snd down to jut until the sharpie mark disappears. remount to make sure I'm still good and the sand down until the red is totally gone. Then I finish and square things up on anything that needs fine fitting using the finest sandpaper on a block that I have on hand.
