For me at least until my R eye vision gets better, the dark spot in the center of my eye blots out both sights and part of my hand, the target is fairly clear except for the center.
So for the time being no more carry. FWIW i have been trying to become L eye dominant, fairly easy being a lefty with a rifle, damn hard with a pistol.

Would fiber optic sites or a an optic with a circle and a dot help? Mounted flashlight with a focused beam?

Why not CC?  I understand you won’t be taking 20 yard shots any time soon but at BG distances kinesthetic body alignment will get you where you need to be to 10 yards if needed, more if you practice.

And for SD you should be shooting with both eyes open anyway.  Just find that front sight.  Your brain will take care of the alignment.  We don’t even explain eye dominance to pistol shooters when teaching SD shooting anymore.

I am right handed left eye dominant and shoot rifles and shotguns left.
Pistol was an extreme challenge attempting to shoot left.  Sight picture was easy but trigger control terrible.
Finally got a tip from an instructor at local range shoot right handed blink left eye quickly when in position and then both eyes open the right eye will catch the sight picture.  Key is both eyes open after the quick offside blink. Took some practice but now its fast and natural.

I have went down the rabbit hole several nights watching real life shooting video's on the YouTubes. 99% of the time the BG is in escape mode at the first BANG.

So long as you can see well enough to know WHO you are shooting at.......

    What he said  ^^^

While you might not be able use your weapon at "longer" distances You can still use it at "bad breath" range and get a BG off of you.

It is commendable that you recognize your limitations, however, I can still see CC as a viable option, within your limitations.

Go to the range and try shooting at a human sized target that's at ranges you'd think a BG would be at. I'm willing to bet you can still shoot well enough to convince a BG he failed in the victim selection process.

i know someone that was legally blind and passed the concealed carry test. Go shoot at 5 yards and see how you do.

My Dad's good friend has been going through various issues with cataracts and floaters - have patience. . . they are pretty good at making it better.

Unless I roll my head up for the old man's "bifocal tilt", nothing destroys a useful sight picture more than a glowing, fluorescent dot blasting its halo through the edges of my front sight.  If the sights are just simple black blocks, I can at least get semi-decent reference off the three fuzzy peaks through my distance prescription, but white, green, orange, or yellow dots are pretty much out for any kind of practical work.

One of my instructors passed a legally blind guy too.  He scored well enough to pass the shooting qualification (which I’ve done with my eyes closed to prove a point).

Local Sheriff wanted to have his instructor license pulled until my buddy pointed out that there is NOTHING in the law about sight being a requirement and the guy who passed threatened to sue the Sheriff for discrimination against a handicapped person.

    It all quietly went away…

There was a famous case in Iowa around 2010 - 2013 under the ADA that resulted in granting a legally blind person obtaining a permit. A disability does not disqualify anyone from a constitutional right.

Holy crap! Where's this advice been all of my life!

Picked up a pistol and this worked almost immediately...

It’s really interesting.  I think I’m going to play with it next time I’m in the range.

Lets just say the stone age meets 2022, met a friend at the range and shot his GP-100 with a Crimson Trace, never used one before, lots of shots getting used to a strange gun and new sighting system, end result, 6 out of 6 at 5 and 7 yds all center mass, no quick draw or rapid fire, but as quick as i could get back steady on target, i used a modified weaver stance.

Thanks to all of you for your advice and comments.

Now just to find a good price on some Crimson Trace grips for my 44 spl.
