Note I said "pondering" - it has a fair level of sexy badassitude as it is. It probably has the last set of open sights a ten year-old set of eyes would ever need. As for the rest of us. . .
Nice work! I love getting an old gun that has been abused and making it into something nice and usable. I've done a lot of .22s through the years. It kind of funny, I don't own a single rifle that I've restored.

Oh I got you and know it's a #57 I'd need.
Yup.
Kinda funny. . .I'd forgotten that it was dovetailed, bringing back to memory that a determination was made that this would be the PEEPED sporter-weight .22; the CZ was the SCOPED sporter-weight .22, the Remington 511 would be the OPEN-SIGHT sporter weight .22. . .
A thing that .22's have in common with toy trains and golf - some of us take it WAY too seriously.
Another thing that just popped into my memory - the bolt handle is a replacement. The originals are a 2-piece that's riveted together at the root, and mine was had developed a wiggle at the root. I want to say that the replacement 1-piece handle came from an Aussie outfit named "Outback", but I think they are probably no more. At least, I tried looking them up again a few years after and came up with nothing.
Anyway, you've inspired me to take this one out next time and shoot it for group again. Cheers!
Mine's got a 5-digit number stamped on the barrel an inch in front of the receiver on the right side in characters that are about 1/8" tall, but nothing on the bolt. that look to have been stamped before it was blued, but I had always assumed them to be a non-factory stamping because they don't really match any factory font I'm familiar with. Wondering if maybe I was wrong about that. I found a pic online with a similar range and font number on the LEFT side of the barrel. . .so strange things may have gone on in New Haven or elsewhere in the supply chain...

I was shocked 😲
Not sure if I should show it to my gun guy 🤔
He'd actually be happy but on the other hand coal may go up.
I've done quite a few too.
Guns with good bones that just needed some TLC to bring back to life and be appreciated again.
I might have one or two but generally gift them away.
It's kind of what I look for now.
Discounted classics cheap
It’s a °IIIII° thing 😎
