1885 Low Wall.

Well the Low Wall is home! A trip next week, weather permitting, to the range with a pile of 22 shells! Yep, a 1885 in 22lr from Uberti. Can’t wait! They scaled the barrel down so it holds like a dream. The trigger is good, I doubt the action will ever break in with shooting 22lr! Oh man I’m giddy!!! I ordered sights for it yesterday. Taylor and co sells a Lyman style sight that’s windage adjustable and the front post that’s on it will work beautifully!

Does yours go to full cock on loading like the real thing, or does it stay at half cock until prompted?

Sadly Uberti decided to let the hammer stay at half cock when the lever is closed. My Winchester does…

Scrape up the things you’re not shooting you’d be surprised what you can afford. Those mini sharps  are really cool but I really like the way the 1885 action works.

Pity.  I got as far as ordering one in .357 Mag a few years back, they sent the wrong model, which was when I learned of this "refit", and opted for a refund instead of correcting the order.  Pretty much defeats what I wanted the rifle for.  Guess I need to research if that can be corrected.

The drawback is the need to literally draw back.  A real 1885 goes and to and stays at full cock on opening, and if you want to put it "on safe", you pull the trigger while easing the hammer to half cock.  My attraction to the 1885 and Martini platforms is lack of additional steps needed for successive shots.  Their lawyers basically turned the High/Low Walls into a child's single shot with a safety that re-engages every time you open the action, and I HATE that crap - especially when it's on what would be a high-volume plinker.
