I don’t mind the Uberti  change. I’m shooting  a single shot rifle, speed in sending rounds down range is a distant consideration. I like single shot because that are slow and methodical. I do have a Winchester 1885 that cocks on close, when I’m at the range it’s great but while hunting I need to lower the hammer. For me it’s either or 1/2 dozen, six the other, both ways have merits, both have faults.

Ahhhhhhhhh, gotcha.  Since mine is is 38-55 and volume shooting is NOT in the cards, AND I’ve never shot an original I guess I’m ok with it and I didn’t even know what I was missing 🤣

    Thanks for the explanation.

Still don't understand.  I'd prefer a plinker that automatically goes on safe. There's no rush unless you're depending on multiple shots to protect yourself from an aggressive squirrel.
Concealed carry is for protection, open carry is for attention.

Or a herd of rabid gophers or prairie dogs at close range and closing, fast. 🤣🐿

Never follow a wounded rabid gopher into the bush.  And when shooting a prairie dog, hold for bone.

That’s some great advice there. I’ve seen some pretty nasty prairie dog  fights!

And there's no rush if you want the damned safety engaged.  I prefer to be my own off switch.  Lots of other slow boat single shots out there - Ballards are a fine thing, but leave JMB's blueprints alone.

When you rack a lever action, do you leave the hammer back?

If I'm going to shoot it now, yes. The safety/half cock is only there for if I'm not. Or just clear the chamber.

I'll bet they changed the program because of lawyers.  It's a change I approve of, however.

Whatever floats your boat.  The OEM Winchester 1885 "safety" operates exactly like that of the 1886, 1890, 1892, 1894, 1895, 1897, and going back to pre-JMB, the Henry, 1866, 1873, and 1876, and Uberti manages to reproduce all of those without an auto-decocker, cross-bolt, or tang-slider.  Not sure why they needed their lawyers meddling in the model without a mag tube.  Shakespeare was right. :#

I don’t get too caught up on differences. We all shoot different handguns, there are a myriad of difference in all of those and we learn their differences. Every rifle is different, savage 99’s, Winchesters, marlins all different. I just learn each one and enjoy the hell out of them!
